Check one, check two, is this thing on? Sometimes when we write blogs, we hear lots of responses from our readers (which we love) and other times, it feels a little bit like we hear the echos of virtual crickets, and we wonder if folks are out there. And we know deep down, it is probably because sometimes you like a blog and other times you are bored to tears!
So please tell us, Smarty readers, what would you like to read about? Are there any blogs you wish we would write? Any trends lurking, topics percolating that you wish someone would fill you in on? We write for you and we want to keep happy and coming back for more. So I am passing the virtual “mike,” grab hold and shout it out!
I’ll get you started – please write a blog on transitioning to the big-girl bed. I have a 20-month-old and fear this transition like the plague! I would love to know what has worked for other moms who have lived through this!
Now you go!

I was hoping for some insight on the best way to potty train especially with twins. I have heard use a little potty, don’t use a little potty but get a stool, buy a “potty watch” that they can wear, let them walk around with nothing on and even to have a potty party every time they go. I am a little confused on what would be the most effective. Help please! Thanks
Hi. We just potty trained our son and it was not hard at all. We used a kitchen timer and set it every 30 minutes. We took him to the restroom every thirty minutes for 4 days no matter where we were or what we were doing (that was the hard part). Eventually he started wanting to turn the beeper on the timer off and realized that the beeps meant potty time. We then extended it to 40 minutes then 50 minutes etc until he learned the feeling of having to use the restroom. He started telling us when he had to go within a week. Everyone uses something different but this worked out really well for us. Good Luck!
As an up-and-coming first time parent, I adore CSP! I find the blogs insightful and amusing – which is a great balance. I’m at the stage though where I’m learning about registries, daycares and pediatricians. I read all the mommy-to-be books, but sometimes it’s nice to hear from other mommies the things to look for or ask. I would love to see some posts about “if I could do it again, I would register for…” or maybe things to look for when touring/researching pediatricians and daycares. Anything else as an up-and-coming mommy that I need to know?
Jen, we can definately do a what to ask when touring daycares blog, it is now on my to do list! As the only Smarty Writer with a kid in daycare, I have to represent us working moms! I love, love, love Katherine’s daycare and want all moms to find a place they can rave about. Stay tuned!
Taylor, I still live in diaper land, but all the other smarty writers are past this phase and I am sure they have some good input, we’ll put it on the list!
Taylor, I have twins! But, they are far from the potty training age! So, I may need to ask YOU questions when it is my turn! But,Jen has twins that are older so maybe she can help!?
Would love some entertaining and party tips from a mom/family perspective. We love to have friends (and their families) over for dinner or get togethers. I’d love some new menu/recipe ideas as well as some decorating, shopping (any great food/wine providers out there?) and general “how-to-pick-up-the-house-get-everyone-clothed-and-food-ready-at-the-same-time” suggestions.
I would like some posts regarding school- aged issues, like how to handle things when your kid gets the teacher “no one” seems to like, getting ready for EOG’s, choosing public vs. private schools, etc. Maybe have some teachers guest blog about trends and issues they are seeing and what would be helpful for young student success.
I love CSP!! I love all the blogs and advice, especially the funny articles! I would love one on how to discipline a toddler!! My two and a half year old is so stubborn and I just don’t know how to handle him sometimes! I would also love to know how people relax and be calm when there is always an endless to do list as a mom. Thanks for all you do!!
I love CSP! I think everyone already gave great ideas. I LOVE when you guys tell us what is going on for the upcoming weekend. Recipes are something I collect like you wouldn’t believe so I could never have too many new recipes!
Katie E. – I am reading a fantastic book on dealing with toddlers and kids and I am going to do a book review later this month. I think it is a must read!!! I am having trouble with my 20 month old and power struggles and tantrums and this book has so many ideas – stay tuned! And I am officially contacting my teacher friends and Martha Stuart friends to line up some guest blogs. I could write a blog on how to entertain when you work full time and have like zero time to do anything and hate cooking. That might be interesting. Thanks so much for all these ideas, we will not dissapoint!
I call potty training blog – I’m on it! Not that I’m an expert, but I have some good insight to share after training 4 chicken littles:-)
I love CSP as well, I really enjoy blogs about every day life with humor, I really like the funny blogs best. I come here for many things, advice, tips and entertaining funny blogs! Also I like the ideas of the school blogs Christy mentioned. I would like some more book review blogs, I love reading and I am always looking for a new, good book to read!
I’d love to see some more reviews of restaurants and places in CLT. I love finding out new places to eat and ideas of great activities. When these activities are “deals” or there is insider info, that is always nice! Maybe a weekly or bi weekly restaurant/location review?! Info could be food, service, family friendly, pricing, locations, etc.
I loved the day trip series you have done in the past. I have two small boys and am always looking for fun things to do with them – either in Charlotte or within an hour or so of Charlotte. I’d also loves tips for getting back into shape post baby… specifically losing the tummy. 🙂 Thanks for all you do to make this site great!
I would love an article on what’s being cooked in the kitchen. I need new recipes for weeknights and would love some ideas for a 5 night rotaion.
We have a wonderful blog on orthodontics and dental care. Our site is http://bracesplusdental.com and look forward to all your comments.
