Sometimes the predictability of knowing what you will be doing on a particular holiday brings comfort…or at least it does to me. Chaos and flying by the seat of my pants is my nemesis, with its disruption and disorder. Having a routine (very boring to many!) gives me a soft place to fall.
This will be our 5th year celebrating America’s Birthday with my college bestie and her family, who live in Atlanta. We each have 2 children of similar ages. And get this..our first born have the exact same birthday…July 18, 2006. Spooky, right? Every year, we have a standing date to spend July 4th together. Sometimes in Charlotte. Sometimes in Atlanta. One time at the beach.
Who knows how long this tradition will last or who will be the first to break it or exactly why it started in the first place. Smarties, do you have a July 4th tradition? What are you doing today? Happy 235th Birthday, America!
