Don’t toss your tree, recycle it!
It is estimated that less than 10% of trees in America are recycled. Sad, but true. The rest goes into landfill, taking up space and creating a wasted opportunity to make biomass that could provide nutrients for depleted soil. Thirty million Christmas trees are sold in the US during the Holiday season; if each was recycled it would make enough energy to drive around the world 29,943 times! The city of Charlotte also uses tree remains for mulch and parks!
Below is a list of places that recycle trees. Before you recycle, remember to remove all decorations, tinsel, and lights. Do not put your tree in a bag or plastic of any form. Remember to call the below numbers to check for pick-up hours and information. Some centers require a fee for Christmas tree recycling so be sure to check!
If you want to get creative (and have fun) throw a “Smarty Party” and burn your tree! Make sure to bundle up and pick up the fixings for smores! That is what the Wilson household is doing this year.
