Fall has finally arrived in the Queen City! If you haven’t checked out the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, this is the weekend. Head Uptown for their Family Day to enjoy our latest gem. Miss Nelson Is Missing

Miss Nelson’s class is the worst behaved in the whole school. Spitballs flying across the room, paper airplanes sailing every which way and uncontrollable children send the gentle, long-suffering teacher, Miss Nelson, over the edge. But the students of Room 207 are in for a surprise when Miss Nelson turns up missing and is replaced by Viola Swamp, a scary substitute teacher who loads them down with homework and wields her ruler like a sword! In desperation, the students set out to find their beloved Miss Nelson … but will they ever get her back? Lessons of appreciation and respect are taught with music and dance in this one hour musical based on the book by the same name. Ages 5 and older. Cost is $9-$10.
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art’s Family Day

Go beyond crayons at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art’s Family Day. The event will provide hands-on art activities for kids of all ages and specially-designed museum tours for families. Art projects take place from noon to 4:30pm in the museum’s classroom and video gallery, both located on the second floor. Activities will include: Abstract printmaking, Paper “stained glass”, Interactive computer art. Most art activities illustrate techniques and styles used by artists in the museum’s current exhibition, School of Paris: European Abstraction Post World War II. Tours of the museum for families will be offered on the hour between noon and 3pm and special tours just for kids will be offered at 1 and 3pm. All tours are docent-led and include sketching, scavenger hunts and a junior art critic game. Museum admission on November 6 is free for those under 18, all others receive a discounted ticket price of $4. All Family Day activities are free.
Teeny Tiny Tales

Designed especially for preschoolers, Teeny Tiny Tales introduces children to the world of live theatre with an engaging, interactive experience. Young audiences will love watching nursery rhyme favorites, like “Little Miss Muffett” and “Hey Diddle Diddle” come to life, and will sing and dance along to songs like “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and “The Hokey Pokey.” Cost is $10-$12.

Tour our education trail, our raptor hospital and enjoy sights not generally open to the public. Please sign up in the Visitor’s Center as participation is limited. Cost is $5 plus admission fee.
Charlotte Gold Rush
Historic Latta Plantation

Learn about Charlotte’s rich gold mining history and pan for gold at the miner’s cabin while listening to live music. Visitors can also tour the plantation house, grounds, and outbuildings, meet the farm animals, and see the honeybee exhibit. Cost is $5-$7, free 5 and younger.
Creatures of the Dark

Learn about the mysterious creatures of the dark. Nocturnal animals are often feared and misunderstood by humans. These animals have unique adaptations that help them live and hunt in the dark. Discovering Dinosaurs of the Carolinas

Come and explore charlotte back when dinosaurs and giant sharks ruled the world! We will talk about what kind of dinosaurs lived here, what their footprints looked like and dig for fossils like an archeologist! We will be digging in the dirt so wear clothes that can get dirty. Ages 5-8. Cost is $3.
Giant Steps Bike Drive

This is the first annual bike drive of The Giant Steps Foundation. Giant Steps looks to provide bikes for needy inner city children this Christmas and we ask that old bikes be donated to us. We will repair bikes if required. Help us make a difference in the community!
Daddy & Daughter Date Night at Chick-fil-A

During this special evening, fathers and daughters can enjoy time together in the restaurant. All Chick-fil-A locations will have photo opportunities with the Chick-fil-A “Eat Mor Chikin®” Cow and place mats that include questions and engaging conversation topics. Some locations will feature a red carpet arrival, flowers for the daughters, table-side service, dancing, live music, photographer or limo rides. Every Daddy-Daughter couple will also receive a take home booklet called “Continuing the Conversation” that provides ideas for future dates and conversation topics.
