Looking for some pampering and relaxation before 2 am feedings with a new baby become the new reality? This bundle of joy equals SLEEP DEPRIVATION. As wonderful as new baby is, it can be extremely exhausting. Moms and dads around the country have decided to take a before baby vacation, or “BabyMoon” to rest up, relax or reconnect before the arrival. Now, if you are new parents then this may be more feasible to steal away for an actual vacation. Unless, you have really cool grandparents 🙂 For those of us with other children, there is still the possibility of getting away for the weekend, a night or even an afternoon. This may seem a bit of a luxury during a recession of course, but I think it’s important to do SOMETHING if you can swing it. Even if it’s getting out for an hour with your hubby for coffee or whatever suits your fancy, to actually listen to each other before total chaos hits.
So I have decided to list a few places that would be a great outing for a BabyMoon in the local area. If you are the lucky ones, heading off to Cabo, then tell all the celebs hello and have a margarita for me! Virgin, of course, for you mamas to be….
If you can get away for a night or a weekend then try the Ballantyne Hotel and Lodge. This is a killer place to be and it’s right in our own backyard. Even if you can’t take advantage of one of their fabulous packages then you really should try to go in for a treatment, or TWO!. You are able to utilize the spa facilities for the day with the purchase of a service. Yeehaw!! Oh, and you must check out their menu of services. They have an amazing list of spa treatments as well as prenatal massage and more. The one service I am eyeing is under “instructional massage.” It’s called Family Beginnings.
Family Beginnings
This session will teach an expecting mother’s partner nurturing and therapeutic techniques to address her changing body. Hmmmm…this sounds like the perfect birthday gift for my husband since he said he wanted a massage!! Seriously, (oh wow, I sound like Meredith from Grey’s Anatomy)….we are sooooooooo lucky to have a resort like the Ballantyne Hotel right here in Charlotte! You can really feel like you are getting away from it all but not have to deal with the hassle of traveling, airports, etc. Heck, I sure don’t want to be sitting in a car or an airport at this stage in my pregnancy.
They also have another instructional massage called “A Labor of Love.” This sounds really cool. This instruction demonstrates the benefits of massage, stretches utilizing yoga and Thai massage. These methods will teach a mother’s partner how to offer physical support and comfort during the birthing process. An introduction to infant massage is also included. When my boys were in the NICU, they really stressed how important infant massage is for the baby and of course for bonding. I think it is so awesome that they have included such details in their services. Relaxing AND educational….not only a gift to you but also your baby!
Be sure to check out their website www.spaballantyne.com or call the spa for reservations at 704-248-4141.
Don’t forget to check out the amazing overnight packages such as the Spa Escape, Better Tomorrows and Pick Your Pleasure. Visit www.ballantynehotel.com for more information or call 704-248-4000 for reservations.
If you have a couple of hours then try:
* Simply Skin Spa on Park Road- they do AMAZING facials and use Eminence Organic skincare from Hungary. I have blogged about this spa before and I can’t say enough about the products and the staff. Pure organic skincare is the best for you and your baby. I had a facial there just before Christmas and they did an all natural peel or exfoliation that is safe during pregnancy of course. My skin looked incredible! The staff is extremely knowledgeable and dedicated to the Eminence products. They are offering 15% off first treatments to our CSP readers!! So be sure to mention CSP when you call to book your appointment. Oh, and they also have pregnancy /prenatal massage and reflexology for the mom to be. Call (704) 523-3530 for your appointment. Located at 5126 Park Road Suite 2C Charlotte.
* Rita Simmons Studio– Rita has been performing pregnancy /prenatal massage for over 15 years. She is a delight and works wonders. Just ask our very own Jen Plym. Jen went to Rita when she was pregnant with the twins and she swears this helped her go full term with the boys. Rita is giving 20% off first treatments to our CSP readers!! Rita works out of her own studio. You can reach her at 704-523-6162 or ritasimmons@bellsouth.net.
If none of the above are a possibility then negotiate with the hubby to have a couple hours of alone time to take a nice bath and relax. While you are at it, you might want to do some grooming while you are in there:). Lord knows, I need some help in this department since I can barely shave my legs these days and I haven’t been able to see below my belly for several months now. Scary but true….
I hope you all can take advantage of these great deals and get some well needed and deserved pampering!

For 3 yrs in a row- we've taking just 1 night and gone to the Ballyntine Resort- It has been so refreshing to get away- and almost feels like you've taken a mini-vacation despite it being just 15 min away!
We also use the Ballantyne Resort & Spa, but definitely not enough in my opinion. Sometimes we'll just get couples massages, then sit by the pool with umbrella drinks, then shower for dinner, and off we go without the expense of an overnight sitter. It feels like you're off on a vacay, but we call it our afternoon stay-cay! Recessionista at it's finest – hopefully soon we can get promoted to some overnights:-) I can't say enough good things about Ms. Rita Simmons! She is I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E! She does many natural alternative types of massage too including craniosacral, which is particularly good for infants with colic.
I was just saying to myself this morning that I need a facial. Will definitely try Simply Skin out! Glad I read through even though we don't need a babymoon at the moment. 🙂
