I will admit that I can’t stand the fake shredded Easter grass. It gets all and I mean all over the house. It was a pleasure to find out that the grass is plastic and made from petroleum. Therefore, it was a no brainer for me to omit that from this year’s basket. It will be replaced with more sustainable options. If you knit or sew, you can add yarn or fabric to the basket. You can choose items that you will use later. I also found a bamboo filling at Hancock Fabric for about $10. This would be perfect and it’s so soft! You can also use wool or fleece items, such as Nova Natural Easter Grass Fleece. This comes in green and blue. You can always store this for use the following year instead of throwing away the plastic stuff.
As for the basket itself, try to find something you can reuse for several years to come. A wood basket would be my first choice. You can also try to repurpose a basket or bucket around the house. Reduce, reuse, and recycle!
Both my kids have a major sweet tooth. I have NO idea where they get that from. 🙂 Therefore, I am trying to limit the candy and fill the basket with some other items. I found some cool books and a bug condo that will be added to the basket. You can also add some healthier options like fruit or fruit leathers. Think outside the box or should I say basket. With regards to the candy, I found some great organic and fair trade chocolates and yummy jelly beans at Earth Fare for $1.79. Check out the Natural Candy Store for a variety of goodies. You can find kosher, gluten free, vegan and organic candy here. They also have all natural cotton candy, popcorn balls and yes, chocolate bunnies. Mmmmmmmmm. This is right up my alley.
