The Levine Museum of the New South is honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. today with free admission. They are open 10:00 to 5:00 pm. This is a special Family Focus day sponsored by WSOC-TV.
The Levine Museum of the New South is the nation’s most comprehensive interpretation of post-Civil War southern history, Levine Museum of the New South is a place where people come together to explore where we’ve been and where we’re headed. Passionate about using history to build community, the museum offers exhibits and programs that provide historical context to contemporary issues, raise questions, spark dialogue, and make connections. With free admission, today is great day to check out this wonderful facility.

The Charlotte Symphony is presenting its 11th annual concert celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Daybreak of Freedom concert is the culmination of the Symphony’s week-long recognition of King’s mission to transform democracy “from thin paper to thick action.” Chelsea Tipton, II and Dr. Andre Thomas will conduct.
The Concert is Free and starts at 7:00 at the Belk Theater.

Head to Davidson for a Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at Davidson College for a whole day of events, starting with a 5K run/walk at 9 a.m., followed by activities for children (related to the holiday) from 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., a community convocation at 11:30 a.m., a community luncheon at 12:30 p.m., educational seminars (led by Davidson faculty) at 2:30 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., and the day will end with a “Gospel Extravaganza” at 7 p.m. Free. The Nature Museum is closed today, MLK Day. It is always closed on Mondays and I also called last week to see if they would be closed for the holiday, and indeed, they are.
