Wow! I opened my newspaper this morning to see front-page news… Discovery Place is going to close for 14 months starting January 2009 for massive renovations. They say it is a $31.6 million project to improve and replace aging exhibits, open a 3-D science theater and create one main entrance off Sixth Street.
This is pretty interesting news. Long term, it sounds like it will be wonderful for Charlotte families but it will be a huge bummer to be without for 14 months. Discovery Place is a huge destination for field trips in addition to family visits. It really was probably time for them to do this and imagine how many great renovations they can make in 14 months! Let’s see, my daughter will be almost four-years-old when they reopen. Perfect age. (See photo of Claire and her 2 best buds in the Dicovery Place toddler room in the Spring)
