Smarty Mom and new to the CSP team: Mary DiMenna
by Guest Blogger December 3, 2011Smarties, we’re thrilled to introduce you to the newest member of our team, Mary DiMenna. As you know, we reached out to Smarty Charlotte as we are expanding our sassy little pink & green site. Mary answered our call and will be joining our sales team. We couldn’t be more excited to add her to our Smarty family!
Mary is a native Californian who made her way east and now makes her home in Huntersville. She has been married for 16 years to Gene and has two beautiful boys. They own the Carolina Bicycle Company, so if a bike is on the Santa list, give them a visit.
Smarties, meet Mary DiMenna! -

8 Weeks to Your Awesome Self – Meet Leigh Ann
by Guest Blogger November 20, 2011It was four in the morning, I was nursing our baby and checking my email, and I had to read the email twice. It said, “You are Awesome;” it’s not every day we get to hear those words. I was excited to find out that I had won the “8 weeks to an Awesome You” contest, and a little nervous! I’m looking forward to this journey and the time to do something positive and healthy for me and ultimately my family. I thought I would start by sharing a little about myself, it’s actually really hard to sum up the past year in one blog so here is the condensed version.

With the approach of Fall comes Lungstrong, a cause near and dear to our hearts here at CSP. This Run/Walk 15K/5K supports lung cancer awareness and benefits LUNGevity Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to funding lung cancer research.
LUNGevity Foundation is the pioneer in lung cancer research and is the leading private provider of research funding for the #1 cancer killer. Yes, it’s gravely true, lung cancer is the leading cause of all cancer deaths in the U.S…more than breast, prostate, colorectal and pancreatic cancers COMBINED. Yet, it is the least funded cancer for research. Approximately 50% of the people diagnosed with lung cancer have never smoked or are former smokers. There are the startling statistics and then there are the individuals that comprise them, and when lung cancer claims one of your own you fight back with all you got. Such is the case with the Charlotte Smarty Pants family.

Director of Carmel Presbyterian Weekday SchoolHere we are again. The summer just seems to fly right by, and now here we are at the beginning of another school year. This can be both an exciting and stressful time, especially if you are sending your little one to preschool. Whether this is the very first school experience, or just a move into a new class, your preschooler may be feeling a little nervous. So what can you do to calm the nerves (yours and your child’s) and prepare for the first day of preschool?

Back-to-school was always a big deal in my house growing up. Maybe it was because my mom was a teacher and my dad was a principal, but I think it was really more because my mom used back-to-school as a special time to connect with her three girls and get us pumped up for the new school year.

Smarty Scoop on Uniform Shopping
by Guest Blogger July 26, 2011As July winds down, school shopping begins. More and more schools are going the uniform route and as a parent in a uniform school, I LOVE IT! Uniforms are easy, make my mornings manageable and are easy on the budget. Below is our list of go to places to find uniforms. For non-retail shopping, many schools have resale closets or uniform exchange days where you can go purchase or exchange for gently used uniforms. This is a great starting point and money saver. You can also connect with a family with older children that would be willing to pass on their uniforms as they outgrow them.
