I don’t know many moms who are “just” moms – do you? I am continually amazed at the talents/skills/resources my fellow moms possess – who knew that when I became a mom almost eight years ago, I would be welcomed into this wonderful network of creative, inspiring women who also happen to be awesome moms and friends?

I started the Valentine’s Day “season” a little Scrooge-y. I mean, I’m still finding needles from the Christmas tree, and all of a sudden I find myself back in a crowded Target with a mile-long list of candy and cards for four different classrooms. Then it’s back home to get the kids (or myself) to label all the cards and candy and get them in the right bag on the right day. Then the parties, goodie bags, and oh yea, a card for the hubby. Whew. Too much for a supposedly “Hallmark” holiday!

I can’t break it to them. I simply don’t have the heart to tell my boys that football season is really over. I am sure they think this afternoon will be yet another one spent with dad watching the games and tossing the football in the backyard at halftime. They have no clue it actually ends – that the players really take a break for the next several months. Next August is an eternity to a kid – that’s an entire spring and summer. Nope, I can’t tell them.

What if everything in your world was suddenly turned upside down – would you embrace it as an adventure or live in fear and despair?
That’s the premise of Children’s Theater’s newest production, “The Borrowers,” a cute play based on the book series by Mary Norton. “The Borrowers” is about the Clocks, a family of “little people” who live in the floorboards and “borrow” things from the human “beans” that live above them (they are called the “Clocks” because they sneak upstairs through the grandfather clock). When their hiding place is discovered by a curious boy, they are set off on an adventure in the outside world to be reunited with other “borrowers” and escape from the mean humans (although not all humans are mean), cats, birds, and other “big” creatures.

Yes, it seems like we just began the school year but believe it or not, February is quickly approaching. Do you know what that means for Charlotte moms with little ones? Preschool enrollment time!
Oh, how I love thee, preschool!
Now I know for some of you the thought of preschool enrollment makes your palms sweaty and your heart race. Is my child too young? How do I know if a certain preschool is the right fit? Does preschool even matter? Am I a bad mom if I send my toddler somewhere without me for an entire morning??

I had just gotten done getting my butt kicked at Pure Barre by a new instructor. I went to my mom’s to pick up my little boys, and there is the instructor that just did said-butt-kicking getting out of her car right next door to my mom’s. I yelled out the window, “Hey! You were just my instructor at Pure Barre! You live here?!”
And that’s how our friendship began. You’ve gotta love small-town Charlotte.

Let’s face it, one of the biggest decisions facing any new mom is what…

Don’t you just love it when something you read resonates with you so much that you (shockingly) remember it, learn from it, and continually reference it in your mind for the next few days?

We’re halfway through the semester in the fall, and like every other day, I’m begging the kids to “hurry, hurry, hurry” – they just got home from school but we only have a short 20 minutes to get a snack, change, and hurry into the car to get to dance/gymnastics/guitar/whatever-activity-for-the-day.
Amid the nagging, my 7-year-old daughter looks up at me and says, “I just want a playdate, Mom.” What? You just want to play at home and not go to this wonderful, enriching activity where you have to listen to an adult for yet another hour of your day?? One word: GUILT.
