Happy Wednesday Smarties! Most preschools are winding up their year just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. What a great reason to celebrate with your little ones. This is also a weekend to honor our Service men and women and their sacrifices for the security of our country. Thank you to all who serve and have served. Speed Street is back with plenty of family friendly activities, for fireworks head to Carowinds or to the Whitewater Center. Have a Smarty weekend, get out and Enjoy!

Put on your super-hero cape and grab your galoshes because it’s time to save the world at The Magic House! From a farmer’s market to a recycling center, this exhibit teaches kids how to live green! In the house, kids learn what they can do in their own homes to help the environment. They’ll also get a chance to sit in an energy efficient car. In the research lab kids get to wear lab coats and pretend they are scientists. Parents love the “Re-Use Charity Shop”…Because they’ll find a lot of familiar toys! It’s an exhibit teaching an important message and giving kids & parents a super way to have fun! Ages 3-11.

Live Animal Talk
McDowell Nature Center

What does a snake feel like? Can turtles trade shells? Discover these answers and more while you get up close to several resident animals of McDowell Nature Center, the Preserve, and possibly your backyard. Matthews Summer Concert and Movie Series

All concerts begin at 7 PM. Pre-Movie activities begin at 7 PM, movies begin approximately 8:30 PM or dusk. Vendors will be on site selling dinner food, treats and drinks.No pets. This weeks’s band is “The Stranger Billy Joel Tribute Band”.

Preserve Park and HAYride
McDowell Nature Center

Plan a picnic, go fishing, hike a new trail, or learn more about our park. Staff will be providing a narrated tour of the park and hayride shuttle service between the Nature Center, Medium shelter, and Waterfront. Guests are encouraged to jump on and off at any stop to further enjoy the preserve. Free adventure backpacks, loaner cameras, and fishing equipment are available at the nature center to make the most of your trip around the park (Bait and Fishing licenses are available for a small fee). Seashore Treasures

Many people visit the shore from Charlotte. Learn about the strange creatures you may see and find out what they really are. Seashells, crabs, sea cucumbers, sea pansies, etc. Plus a sand table for the little ones!

Memorial Day Celebration
U.S. National Whitewater Center
May 29, Music starts at 3:00pm
Come and join us in celebrating the Memorial Day weekend with a free concert at the USNWC featuring Trampled by Turtles, The Apache Relay and American Aquarium. We’ll finish off the evening with a stunning fireworks display over our river. Free, $5 to park.

The Harris YMCA School of Dance Spring Dance Recital – Mark your calendar for NEXT weekend!
Performing at The Knight Theater
We LOVE nothing more than to support our ‘lil Smarty ballerinas and we send out a big congratulations to all of the dancers at the Harris YMCA! Dance times are below for the performances this weekend. Make a special night out with your little ones by grabbing dinner and then watching the Company Show on Saturday at 8p. Such a fun tradition and it will give your girls something to look forward to!
