At Camp Gryphon, Palisades Episcopal School’s day camp, we believe three vital components work together to create a joyful summer camp experience: play, reading, and service. Our campers spend the majority of their days engaged in physical play. We swim daily, visit the trampoline park weekly and spend afternoons participating in large group games in our recreation center.
Aside from ample time for children to be active, we also set aside 20-30 minutes daily for quiet reading time. We know that nothing builds readers like habitual, pleasant reading experiences. Even our youngest readers gain the benefits of this time as they are read to by older campers and counselors. Campers grow to look forward to this natural quiet time in the middle of our fun-filled days.
Lastly, we aim to guide children towards a life of service and citizenship. Through our weekly service projects such as neighborhood clean-ups, games and crafts at the local nursing home and making sandwiches for the homeless community, campers are able to see first-hand the positive impact they can have on their community.
Camp Gryphon runs Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and serves children ages 5-8 years of age. Cost is $275 per week. Please visit www.pescharlotte.org/summer for more information.
