Remember sweet Ollie the Owllama (if you’re new to town, let me pause here and explain: that’s a owl + llama = Owllama)? He’s the adorable main character in local mom Kim Wilson’s first book, Ollie the Owllama (read our Smarty review here.) Well, now Ollie is a SERIES. Kim has been writing up a storm since Ollie launched last July. She has already come up with its sequel, Ollie and the Egg-splosion, which is set to hit book stores and online on May 14. Kim and the book’s super-talented illustrator, Ashley Belote, will both be at Carmel Country Club this Saturday, May 11 for a pre-release party, and they’d LOVE for you to come.
Here’s a quick glance at Ollie’s latest adventures:
Ollie and the Egg-Splosion is the second book in The Owllama Series published by Headline Books, Incorporated. Written by Kim Wilson and illustrated by Ashley Belote, the early chapter book features Ollie, an owllama who tries to understand why his name is so long and hard to say. In true Ollie fashion, his llama spit and owl hoot come out all at once when he’s upset, causing him to “pah-hoo” his way through discovering his family history and the origin of his name, as well as that of his soon-to-hatch baby sister’s. Ollie quickly realizes the significance of the names carefully chosen for them, as well as the importance of having a nickname that is true to each of their unique personalities.
A little bit about the author:
Kim grew up with a passion for reading and writing, but it wasn’t until she and her two daughters, Lilly and Emma, were playfully chatting one day that the furry and feathery Owllama was born. Kim tells us that they were talking about their favorite animals and joked that it would be fun if the two were combined. After a few sketches and some brainstorming sessions, the Ollie as we know him today developed into a cute, likeable owllama (could an owllama be unlikeable? Don’t think so).
