Happy Wednesday Smarties. It is shaping up to be a wonderful September weekend. There are not one but TWO County Fairs (funnel cakes, cotton candy, rides…), a BBQ Festival that includes ice cream and the Greek Festival. You will not have to look far for your favorite foods! There are also three Run/Walks all benefitting wonderful organizations, Ronald McDonald House, Camp CARE and Tyler’s Treehouse. There is plenty to choose from so get out and enjoy!

74th Annual Iredell County Fair

The purpose of the Iredell County Agricultural Fair is to promote local agriculture, improve participation by youth in agriculture and educate the public about the impact of agriculture on the community. Features animals, food, rides and various types of entertainment.

Yiasou Greek Festival

The Yiasou Greek Festival began in 1978 and since then has become one of Charlotte’s largest cultural events. It is eagerly anticipated by the Charlotte community each year. Yiasou (the Greek word for Hello, Goodbye and Cheers) Greek Festival features Hellenic cultural exhibits, authentic Greek cuisine and pastries, entertainment, art, shopping and more. Tyler’s Treehouse 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run and Walk is a Family Event for all ages! Tyler’s Treehouse, Inc. is a foundation established in memory of Tyler Scott who died at the age of 5 with brainstem glioma. The goal of the foundation is to find a cure for brainstem glioma. Come participate in a challenging certified 5K course which traverses through the Olde Georgetowne and Sharon Hills neighborhoods located behind the Harris YMCA off of Sharon Rd. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk is an event for the whole family with strollers and wagons welcomed! All participants receive a prize.

The festival includes great activities for all ages including: Rock wall, Moon bounce, clown balloon artist, petting zoo, balloons, food and beverage, free fitness, health and nutrition activities and more! Follow the Trail

There weren’t always nicely marked trails in the past. Many people found their way by using trail marks that previous people had left using rocks and sticks. See if you can interpret these signs to find your way through the nature preserve! No registration required.

Rural Hill Amazing Maize Maze 2010

See how fast you can find your way out of the seven-acre corn maze while searching for the 12 map pieces. Music and food will also be available. Visit the website for advance tickets, times and special activities. Plan for 1-2 hours and wear your walking shoes. Cost is $7-$15, under 4 is free.
