Smarties, we are kicking off our Camp Season with an amazing giveaway as a part of our 2014 Smarty Camp Guide! Our Smarty friends at Camp Highlander are giving away one week of camp – Junior II session, June 15-20 (Sunday – Friday) for campers K-4th grade. This is a value of $1,225 – pick me, pick me!
Camp Highlander, located in Mills River, NC, near Asheville, provides a magical summer experience for girls and boys, ages 5-16. The South Mills River runs through the gorgeous 240 acre campus. The well-maintained facilities include a post and beam rec hall, a pristine lake with slide, an Olympic-size outdoor pool, a rifle range, a ropes course and climbing wall, extensive trails and a top-of-the-line horse stable and ring.
Junior Camp, for boys and girls, K to 4th grade, is the best of the best at Camp Highlander! With lower camper to counselor ratios, Junior Camp is a great introduction to camp life for new campers and their families. The six-day session is designed to foster independence and build confidence while away from home. Campers can try the most popular adventures and activities, such as canoeing, riflery, archery, horseback riding, climbing, sports, crafts, the zip wire and swimming.
Campers will have a blast experiencing the wonders of camp with the encouraging spirit and support of Camp Highlander’s qualified staff. They will learn teamwork and discover how good it feels to do something on their own. This is what Highlander is all about – creating amazing memories that will last a lifetime.
For over 50 years, Camp Highlander has changed the lives of campers through outstanding role-model staff and high-caliber programs. Older campers enjoy adventures like Nantahala whitewater rafting, canoeing on the Green River, camping at Dupont Forest and even a horseback overnight at the Biltmore Estate.
Long-term owners, Karl and Shelley Alexander, are dedicated to giving campers life skills that build character and leadership. In fact, the Alexanders take this commitment so seriously, they brought the social leadership programs, Athena’s Path and Hero’s Pursuit, to their Intermediate Camp last summer.
You are probably familiar with these leadership programs as they were designed by our very own CSP middle school expert, Michelle Icard. Michelle in the Middle leadership curriculum teaches Intermediate Campers (Ages 5th-8th grade) skills to help them make their own decisions, lead their own lives and navigate the tricky social scene of middle school, using their unique leadership styles and personalities. Here at CSP, we can’t believe what a great opportunity middle schoolers have to combine a high quality sleep away camp with these valuable life lessons!

I think he would love everything, but I guess his favorite would be the evening program activities, especially hanging out at the bonfire.
Canoeing and the talent show for sure!!
My son would love zip lining! It would be so good for him to get away and be in the wilderness for a week.
My oldest would love whitewater rafting!
John would love all the activities especially the sports ones! 🙂
My daughter’s favorite would prob be horseback and canoeing. And the climbing wall, ziplines…all of it really 🙂
I was just looking at this camp last week. I love the father/son opportunities, but I don’t think we could fit it in our calendar this year. My son would enjoy all of these activities. He has recently become a big brother to a second sister, so the chance to get out and be active would be met with a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I think his favorite might be the zip line!
My son would love the ziplining, and the climbing walls!
All the water activities!
My son would love the zip lining!

My son would probably love the canoeing, crafts, and the Vitamin D from being outdoors!
My girl would love all things nature & the talent show!
She would love everything but canoeing! She would looove the talent show
Do I have to choose just one activity as his favorite cause he’s likely to enjoy the horseback riding (we have to pull him off the pony rides at the fair so it will be big time fun on a horse!) climbing (my furniture could use a break), crafts (Michaels craft store kids club knows us by name) swimming (he officially was able to go down the neighborhood pool slide after learning to swim unassisted last summer!) And if you ask him he’d say “all of it!”.
My daughter would love the horseback riding and the zipline!

My oldest son, 9, would really enjoy winning this!! I think he would most enjoy meeting new kids, and the overall experience.
