I don’t use paper napkins and I rarely use paper towels these days. I use dishtowels/washcloths for most everything to cut down on use of paper products thus saving tons of trees! It has been quite simple. However this fall when the boys started preschool, I didn’t know what to send with them for a napkin in their lunchbox. I then came across Fabkins. This is an absolutely fabulous company based out of California that has come up with a perfect solution. They sell kid-sized cloth napkins with the cutest themes. They are eco-friendly AND adorable for your kids! I personally love the surf board theme. I had tried surfing several times out in Cali but was not very successful nor was it a pretty picture. The Pacific is quite chilly so I don’t know that I would ever embarrass myself and try to squeeze into a wetsuit ever again. Although, I guess the Atlantic is a bit warmer so you wouldn’t need one. Anyways, I think I will pass on the dream to my boys and maybe they can hang out on a long board one of these days.
The other reason I love this company is that it was founded by two moms who came up with a solution to sending their kids to school with a waste-free lunch. It inspires the children to get involved in an environmental cause and what better way than to start here. They even have a special holiday edition out now.
These make great birthday and hostess gifts as well. You can also use Fabkins as a fundraiser with your school. They can even make custom school logos for the napkins! Their website is really informative and has some great links. You can give your kids something fun, meaningful and feel good about saving the planet.

Wow. I am pleasantly surprised at the price. It doesn’t seem like too much to spend on 5 napkins. But I just can’t wrap by brain around more laundry. I think for now I’ll have to try and help the earth in other ways.
I think these are a GREAT idea!! It is amazing how much trash is accumulated in a school cafeteria. Here is another company that also makes these….and they happen to be in our state!http://www.happikins.com/index.html
