She’s Crafty

Every new year, I vow to get crafty. I really do enjoy crafts and making stuff. I always deliver on my promise early by turning out a few good ones. Then, by spring I’m over it and I move on.

Since I  have been known to pin all day and pin all night, I’ve pinned some majorly brillz DIY works of art. One cute idea was taping out your kid’s name onto posterboard with blue painter’s tape and have them finger paint over it. Remove the tape and you have some cool artwork. I knew I could easily kick this up a few notches and my kids would create a masterpiece worthy of the Mint Museum.

Here are the steps:

1. Type your child’s name into Microsoft Word. I used Copperplate Gothic Bold font, size 580. My daughter has 9 letters in her name so if you have an Elizabeth or Katherine, then you will soon feel my pain. My son has 4 letters in his name – score!
   
   
2. I bought 12″x24″ canvas at Michael’s. They were on sale for $7 each. Before you go, check their site for a coupon!  They always have a coupon.
3. Cut out the letters and affix to canvas with double stick tape.
4. Have your child paint on the canvas, filling up all of the white space. We had some tubes of acrylic paints already so they used those.
   
5. Remove the letters and voila! Masterpiece! I also got some fun ribbon at Michael’s and plan to hang these in their rooms. They were so proud of their work!
