Smarty mamas – of young children especially – did you know there’s a new branch of the Charlotte Mecklenburg library open in Pineville? Our family is always looking for new and fun library adventures, and Charlotte has so many great branches to choose from. Time to add the Pineville Branch to our regular rotation!
The Pineville Branch is located on 505 Main Street, right in the heart of the refurbished downtown area, adjacent to Town Hall! It’s brand new – it opened on Dec. 10 – which means many of the books circulating from there are brand new, as well as the computers, manipulative toys and more!
I took my sons 6 and 5-year-old twins shortly after it opened, and the staff was so welcoming and friendly. My boys got a kick out of finding their way around the new children’s section by going on the ready-made scavenger hunt. They chuckled at the joke of the week from a 7-year-old named Beckett: “What do you call a dinosaur that farts? A blast from the past!”
They loved coloring – both on paper and with art tools on the computer. And the most memorable new thing we learned about was using “Wonderbooks” which are books with computerized “read along” audio features in them. So even after I read a book to a son, he can take it off on his own and follow along to the words himself. It’s another tool to help teach youngsters to read. It makes reading fun!
The Pineville branch is super convenient to those of us in South Charlotte. It’s not far from the Target on South Boulevard where we go quite regularly anyway!
