Hot weather is here (ugh) and it’s time to get our kids into their summer shoes, whether that means Natives, sandals, Crocs and more. While slip-on style shoes might seem simple to size for your children, I think it can be complicated too! That’s why I always default to the amazing staff at Kixx Shoes in Park Village.
Here’s a case in point: We had ordered a new pair of Natives for my 6-year-old son Wade because he wanted red. They are fantastic shoes, by the way, because they’re almost like tennis shoes but better ventilated and water proof. They’re perfect for trips to the beach or pool because all you have to do to clean them is rinse them off!
By the time Wade’s red ones came in (supply chain issues abound) his feet had grown a significant amount. We tried on the shoes again at the store and they looked snug to me. Wade thought they felt great and would have been happy to wear them out of the store and for the rest of the day. The trouble with that is chances are he’d only have been able to wear them for a month or two before they were too tight. And who wants to spend money for a good pair of shoes that last two months?
Luckily the staff at Kixx Shoes were all over it and advised us that Natives are supposed to be a little loose and slippy, and that given Wade’s wide feet, we should probably go up a size anyway. So he tried on the next size and walked around the store where the staff could watch him. Thanks to their expertise, we were assured the larger size would work fine (and last all summer!) So Wade and Mama walked out of the store happy, with the new shoes on Wade’s feet. They were navy instead of red, but that’s one of Wade’s favorite colors too.
So if you’re ordering pairs of shoes off the internet and trying to guess what’s going to work on your child – especially if you have more than one – it takes out the worry and the potential for wasted spending if you show up at Kixx and get personal service. I highly recommend it!
