I haven’t seen my boys smile, like really smile, in years. They have literally been hiding behind their teeth since 6th grade when they came in pretty jacked up. They have been B-E-G-G-I-N-G for braces since that time, and here we are in high school and they just got them on. Added pain, every tween and teen around them got their braces on and off, while my twins were stuck in the waiting game.
All along the way, we consulted with our amazing orthodontist and good friend, Dr. Grant Coleman with Hull & Coleman Orthodontics, and he assured us that there was nothing we could do but wait – wait for their baby teeth to fall out and adult teeth to come down. That’s how God made them – and they are facing braces until senior year of high school, which is not a good thing for any teenager.
I have entrusted Drs. Hull and Coleman with my entire family, starting with me. I got Invisalign first and have been thrilled with the results – I still wear my retainer every night, so important! My girls got their gorgeous smiles from Dr. Coleman and they also wear their retainer every night.
Now we’re just waiting for the boys to go through the process, which I’ll document here and on CSP social channels. Dr. Coleman informed them that the length of time in braces will ultimately depend on them – they must follow the guidance of rubberbanding, which most teenagers mess up. I feel pretty confident my boys will hang on Dr. Coleman’s every word. They are not excited to be wearing braces throughout most of their high school career – so any chance to shorten that time, they’ll be all over it.
For me, I just can’t wait for them to show me a big ‘ole smile with teeth from ear to ear.
