If you’re like me, Smarties, you were putting this on the to-do-in-the-new-year list, but nope – this is something you can get a jump on NOW! Dilworth Little League has begun its registration for its spring seasons of baseball and softball. Click here to register.
Our 5-year-old son Wade has played two seasons of tee ball now, and I just signed him up for the spring. In fact, I just signed all three of my boys for tee ball this spring. Gulp! Can they all really be old enough to do this together?! It’s both crazy to realize and exciting too. Tee ball was such a fun and easy way to introduce Wade to a sport that comes with a pretty wide range of skills and lot of fun. Not only did Wade have a great time, but we as parents did too. We made a really neat group of friends.
Dilworth Little League offers a wide range of offerings from baseball and softball for boys and girls ages 4 to 18! Here is a breakdown about each level so you can figure out where your kiddos might fit! And maybe Santa can bring a new glove or bat down the chimney this year! For more information, click here.
Baseball
Tee ball: This is our youngest division and is open to boys and girls aged 4-6. No prior baseball experience is required. Regular season play will complete before Memorial Day.
AA Machine Pitch: This co-ed division is for players aged 6-7. Younger players should have played at least a year of tee ball. This division will not play a post-season tournament and the regular season will end the week before Memorial Day.
AAA Machine Pitch: This co-ed division is for players aged 7-8 and is a little more advanced and competitive than the AA division. This division will play a post-season tournament which will end on Championship Saturday, likely on June 4. This division may have a player evaluation in late February/early March to help assemble balanced teams.
Minors/Unaffiliated Majors: This coed division is for players aged 9-12 who have not yet been drafted to a Majors division team during a prior spring season. Kids will pitch in this division. All players should go through a player evaluation and players hoping to be drafted to Majors division teams must attend one of the evaluation sessions, which will likely be held in late February/early March. Minors will have a post-season tournament that will end on Championship Saturday, likely on June 4.
Returning Majors: This is for players who have already been drafted to a Majors team in a prior spring season. Majors will have a double-elimination tournament that will begin the day after Memorial Day and end in early June.
Juniors: This division is for players aged 13-14 and will play on a full regulation sized field (90 foot bases, 60.5 ft pitching distance.) Due to conflicts with school ball, this division will begin practicing in April and play games in May and June.
Seniors: This division is for players aged 15-16. Due to conflicts with school ball, this division will begin practicing in April and play games in May and June.
18U (Babe Ruth): This division is for players aged 17-18. Play will begin later in the spring and play through June.
Softball
Coach Pitch Rookies: This division is for girls aged 6-8. This is a division for less experienced players and is a great way to get introduced to softball and have a great time learning the basic skills of the game.
Fastpitch Minors: This division is for girls aged 9-11. Girls do all the pitching in this division and coaches will focus on developing fundamental skills and situational awareness.
Fastpitch Majors: This division is for girls aged 11-13. Coaches will continue to focus on developing fundamental skills in a more competitive league.
Stay tuned for more information about specific dates in January. Teams will be assembled in early March with play continuing past Memorial Day weekend for the older divisions. Opening Ceremonies are tentatively scheduled for April 1, Dilworth’s Night with the Knights will be April 29 and Championship Saturday/Closing Ceremonies are tentatively set for June 4. To be eligible for Dilworth Little League, players must live inside the league’s boundary or attend an elementary, middle or high school within the boundary.
