Susan G. Komen announced the return of its signature breast cancer fundraising event, Charlotte Race for the Cure®, presented by Novant Health, in a modified format on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Last year due to COVID the Charlotte Race for the Cure, which raises funds and support for research, education, screening and treatment of breast cancer, was held as a virtual event, with participants encouraged to venture out in their own neighborhoods and share photos on social media.
This year, on the 25th anniversary of the race, participants are encouraged to meet up with smaller groups at “Pink Pathways” thoughout the Charlotte area. Pink Pathways are informal meet-up spots where volunteers can invite others to join them for the morning to log their miles, while dividing into smaller groups to make sure everyone is able to social distance and stay safe! The day will start with a digital opening ceremony at 8 a.m.
The 25th Anniversary Charlotte Race for the Cure is a day where participants can put aside everything else and share stories, laughter, and tears to raise money that saves lives while celebrating survivors, those living with breast cancer, and honor loved ones lost.
“This has been a time of flux in our world and it feels good to come together, in the ways we feel most comfortable for each of us, as one community of hope and compassion, united by a desire to save lives from breast cancer,” said Kelly Hendricks, Development Director for Charlotte.
The local event brings together a community of hope and compassion to raise funds to save lives from breast cancer. Funds raised support Komen’s advocacy, research investments and support of people facing breast cancer today, ensuring everyone can get the care they need to live.

Prior to the race, Susan G. Komen will host Power of One week, which is ONE final week, and ONE final push to make a HUGE impact in the fight against breast cancer. From Monday, Sept. 27 through Friday, Oct. 1, the community will come together through a variety of activities to raise funds.
