We’re back to the school grind, Smarties, and we couldn’t have predicted how different this school year would be. With remote learning, in-person instruction and a hybrid blend currently taking place in a classroom near you, we are all hoping that next year looks entirely different.
Our local schools are pivoting daily and they have some really important Open House dates for you to put on your calendars. Below we present our Smarty Open House Guide, make sure you bookmark this guide because dates are changing often. We are SO lucky to have so many incredible options in the QC – you are sure to find the right fit for your family.
We are very proud to announce our partners for the 2020-21 Smarty Education Corner: Charlotte Christian School, Charlotte Country Day School, Charlotte Jewish Day School, Charlotte Latin School, Charlotte Preparatory School, The Fletcher School, The John Crosland School, Oaks Christian School, Palisades Episcopal School, and Providence Day School. We leaned heavily on our educational experts throughout the pandemic and we couldn’t be more proud of this team. CHARLOTTE AREA INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS
Charlotte Christian School
Christ-centered. College preparatory. Educating the whole child.
Knights Lead: Celebrating 70 years of excellence in Christian education, Charlotte Christian is a Christ-centered, college preparatory, independent, non-denominational school, serving students in grades JK-12. We offer a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for institutions of higher learning and life beyond. Character and values are emphasized and modeled by a professional and dedicated faculty.
Knights Explore: At Charlotte Christian we teach to the whole child – mind, body, and spirit. Whether composing a song in a digital music class or winning a National Gold Key in art; trying a new sport or playing on a state championship team; taking a field trip downtown or traveling the world during a J-Term excursion, we seek to allow each student to expand their horizons by offering a wide variety of teams, classes, clubs and activities.
Knights Impact: Charlotte Christian does not simply provide a curriculum which contains a Bible class; we teach students to make sense of the world and their place in it by filtering their learning through God’s word. Annual retreats, weekly chapels, and special spiritual emphasis days are planned each year for students as a time for renewal and relationship building and learning how to impact the culture for Christ.

KNOWN, LOVED, CHALLENGED.
Now more than ever, your children need a school where they are known for their unique personalities, loved by their teachers, and challenged to rise to their personal best. At Charlotte Prep, our intimate size and PreK-8th grade philosophy create a community where children receive an outstanding education in a safe, nurturing environment that fosters intellectual, expressive, physical, and ethical growth.
Although school looks different this year, rest assured that our dedication to remaining child-centered remains constant. The physical and emotional health and happiness of each child is always at the forefront of our minds. The size of our #OnePrep family means we have a pulse on every child’s needs in our community, be those academic or emotional, on-campus, or virtual.
We value positive character and integrity as the essential building blocks of a truly meaningful life. With our intentionally designed small class sizes, we can ensure that every student is known, loved, and challenged. We recognize and appreciate the richness of a diverse student body, which accounts for approximately 42% of our population. We develop principled, self-confident leaders who model self-control and creative problem-solving skills, and are able to lead others.

The John Crosland School
Crosland students are intelligent and hardworking, yet they often come to us feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. A student’s self-esteem may have been impacted by the difficult journey to find an academic environment suited to meet his or her unique needs. Crosland can provide this academic setting for your child where he or she feels accepted and safe by educators who understand. The attention to detail and student support is evident in the highly qualified teachers who deliver a specialized curriculum that allows our students to gain understanding and to grow. We include the arts, athletics, social thinking, and executive functioning to create a balanced approach. We strive for students to build confidence, become independent learners, and most importantly understand what they need to have in place to succeed and accomplish their dreams. Our program provides a synthesis between customized academic curricula for students who learn differently and the loving support of teachers who encourage self-advocacy while also guiding social growth in a non-competitive, low-stress environment. We challenge children to measure their own growth rather than comparing themselves to peers, friends, or siblings.

Oaks Christian School
At Oaks Christian School, our vision is to nurture, develop, and educate the whole child – mind, body, heart, and soul. It is our mission to accomplish this and promote a love of learning through a distinctive program that includes experiential learning environments, a Christ-centered worldview, community service partnerships, and a convenient year-round calendar. We accomplish this unique vision through small classes, where our teachers have the opportunity to know students personally in a highly relational atmosphere. Our commitment to delivering experiential learning allows us to captivate young minds with hands-on projects that bring learning to life, and most importantly, our Christ-centered approach to teaching and serving others allows each child to know his or her identity and worth in the Lord and to share and model those very concepts with others.
The school does not discriminate on the basis of gender, race, color or national origin in the administration of its educational programs, admissions policies, financial aid policies, employment practices or other school-administered programs.
