The holiday season is our favorite time of the year as a family. Now more than ever, the spirit of giving is all around us – whether we round up every time we go to our favorite chicken salad spot, The MayoBird, to support the featured charity, or we bake cookies at the Ronald McDonald House, my kids have grown up with giving in their hearts. The holidays remind us that there are so many families less fortunate than ours and we use that as a daily teachable moment for our kids – be humble, be kind, be giving.
The holidays also give us an opportunity to slow down our crazy, busy lives. With four tweens/teens four years apart, we are carpooling all over town to get to activities and sports on any given day during the school year. Our time off during the holidays gives us pause and much needed time to reconnect as a family. We covet our holiday family time together and cherish an unscheduled daily routine.
One family goal we have during the holiday break is to disconnect {slightly} and go a little “old school.” Instead of binging on social media {girls} or spending hours upon hours on Fortnite/Forza “parties” {boys}, we are asking our kids to do more activities as a family. I know, that’s a tall order sometimes! We are hoping to play board and singing games with our cousins over break – we’ve had some amazing karaoke nights that can get quite competitive! Or even watch a movie as a family, not on a tiny device. We are currently LOVING the Netflix and Freeform cheesy but AH-MAZING holiday movie lineups, all with a love story and happy ending wrapped up in a bow! We can’t wait for Netflix A Christmas Prince The Royal Wedding, highly recommend A Christmas Prince.
Some of our favorite outdoor bonding time happens in our own backyard. On many cool winter evenings, we’ll set up a fire pit for caroling and ‘smores and have a backyard holiday movie night with our Springfree Trampoline as our backdrop. {P.S. The trampoline was hands down the best decision we ever made for our family! It’s a gift that keeps on giving, year after year. I’m pretty sure my kids will never outgrow it and it’s the safest trampoline on the market, so we never worry about them hurting themselves.} Our movie night often turns into a family campout. For the Plym kids, the colder the better for camping!
We hope you use this holiday season to slow down and enjoy your family. They grow up sooner than you realize! ~Merry, Merry!
P.S. If you’d like your own Springfree Trampoline, now is the perfect time! For the first time ever, Springfree is discounting its trampolines – save up to $500 on the purchase of a trampoline plus get delivery and installation for $299 (reg. $399) with promo code SANTASAVINGS.
