Smarties, whatever you have planned for next weekend – CANCEL it and buy yourself a ticket to go and see the Children’s Theatre of Charlotte’s Matilda. The talent of this remarkable cast will blow you away. My son, Christopher, cannot sit still no matter how hard he tries. But, I am here to tell you, he sat through this entire musical. All two hours and fifteen minutes of it. That in itself is a testament to how amazing it is!
Standing Ovation G-O-O-D!
See it twice G-O-O-D!
Tell all your friends to see it G-O-O-D!
Shout it out all over social media G-O-O-D!
Not one detail was missed. The characters are exactly like you imagine as you are reading the book. From the costume to the facial expressions, the CTC actors capture the absurdity of the parents and headmistress perfectly. You can’t help but to laugh— not a little chuckle. I am talking about a “laugh out loud” belly laugh!
The actors – Amazing
Seriously, these kids will BLOW you away with their talent!
The set design — Amazing
The music — Amazing
The costumes — Perfection
Everything that goes into a performance — lighting, sound — all of it — AMAZING!
You can read the story of Matilda in a book and create the characters and story in your mind. Or you can watch the movie and watch the story unfold on the screen. But, the live theatre performance offers you another dimension. The story becomes alive. Your senses become activated. It is a magical experience! One that you will remember forever.
If you are not familiar with Roald Dahl’s book Matilda here is a short summary and background:
“Matilda Wormwood is only five years old, but she is a genius. Unfortunately her parents are too stupid to even notice. Worse, her horrible headmistress Miss Trunchbull is a bully who makes life difficult for Matilda’s teacher, Miss Honey, and her friends. But what Miss Trunchbull doesn’t know is that Matilda has a trick or two up her sleeve.”
“Matilda won the Children’s Book Award shortly after it was published in 1988, and it has continued to delight audiences ever since. Early drafts of the story were very different to the one we now know. At first, Matilda was a wicked girl who eventually used her powers to help her teacher solve her financial problems – by fixing a horse race. In the end, though, it became the magical story now known to children the world over.”
