Smarties, meet my friend Kelly Superak. I first met this powerful mama-of-two when I was a client in one of her amazing, take-no-prisoner athletic training classes at the Y. She’s got a HUGE fitness following for a reason: she’s fierce, passionate, powerful and can somehow finagle her class into doing endless sprints, burpees, box jumps, or any other athletic endeavor at 110%. You’ll leave a class with Kelly feeling strong in mind, body, and spirit – I promise.
Kelly is truly superwoman. Whatever she does, so does big – whether it’s fitness, her Beauty Counter business, or loving on her sweet kids, Kelly is all-in. So, I wasn’t surprised at all to learn that she’s taking her passion and enthusiasm for one of her favorite organizations, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, to the next level. She has decided to jump into the running for the LLS’s Woman of the Year 2018. It’s a huge challenge, but I know Kelly is ready. She’s here today to tell us more about it and how we can get involved.
Enjoy getting to know Kelly, truly one of the Smartiest women I know!

Tell us why Charlotte Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) is close to your heart.
I have been interested in health and wellness since the moment I started swimming at 7/8 years old. I know any of us could deal with cancer or illness at any moment, so being ready for that fight with good health is so important. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does not just want treatment for unhealthy, they want a cure for cancer.
How did you get involved in LLS?
We lived outside of DC for 6 years and the Man/Woman of the Year campaign is big there. I was asked to do events for candidates and did, and when we moved back I saw a mutual friend was running (Shelley Miller- Woman of the year 2017!) and offered to do an event for her.
Sitting at the Man/Woman of the Year finale gala last year to support Shelley was incredible. This organization is moving mountains to achieve a cure for cancer- not just Leukemia and Lymphoma but all cancers. In 2017, 15 of the 18 FDA approved cancer drugs were backed by LLS. 15!! One of those is already being tested on breast, colon, and other types of cancer. Blood is more readily available for research versus a tumor so it’s an organization we could all benefit from supporting.
Shelley went on after winning to be part of the LLS leadership committee and nominated me to run this year. I couldn’t say no to an opportunity to truly make an impact.
Tell us about the LLS Woman of the Year and what it entails?
Woman of the Year is a 10 week fundraising campaign. Every dollar counts as a vote and the person with the most votes wins. I’ve got a team of friends who have been strong points in my life – Team Strength! They also assist in fundraising efforts and they have been amazing. We set a goal to raise $200,000!
How can we get involved?
You can visit my site to make a donation directly, https://pages.mwoy.org/nc/clt18/ksuperak
And you can attend any of the events I’ve got going on over the next ten weeks! Many of them are health related- I truly feel health and charity go hand in hand. Paying it forward so everyone can be healthy.
