LP Thrift Originals by Lauren Payne Thrift are known for the use of bright colors, clean shapes and so much joy! You may be familiar with some of Lauren’s angel and family paintings. Her art is featured in galleries all over town and they are guaranteed to bring you to your happy place.
Recently, Lauren was moved after listening to a sermon. And she decided to take action.
Here’s Lauren:
Back in the Spring, I heard a sermon series on Ecclesiastes. Personally, it happened to be a time of renovating, a time of moving, a time of unpacking. It hit me as I heard this sermon, that in our new home I would have fewer walls to hang art and a smaller studio space to hang and hold on to paintings. Maybe it was a time to part with some favorite pieces.
That same Sunday morning, I also learned that Waypoint was beginning to form a relationship with their “neighborhood” school. Waypoint Community Church meets for Sunday worship at the Queens University Sports Complex on Tyvola. (Right next to the Madison Park neighborhood) It hit me during that service, that maybe I could use my art to help out this school.
Fast forward a few weeks…I had the pleasure of meeting Natashia Pegram, the principal of Pinewood Elementary. Natashia is full of joy and love and passion. She is so proud of her school, the students, the teachers, and the families. Pinewood has its fair share of obstacles, but I am certain the enthusiasm and faith of their principal makes those obstacles much easier to face.
Pinewood Elementary, a Title 1 school, is located in the Madison Park neighborhood of Charlotte. It’s right next door to South Park, Myers Park, Park Road Shops and all the happenings on Montford Drive.
So, after months of thought and prayer, I am trying to help this sweet school with one of their needs. Often, they run short on nurse supplies. Something like a Bandaid can seem so simple, but to a child with a scraped knee it’s really important.
Paper Twist has graciously and generously offered to host a Pop Up sale of my art on Thursday, October 6th. I will be there from 10am-6pm with a selection of paintings. Absolutely 100% of the sales will go straight to providing nursing supplies for Pinewood Elementary. I am hoping to fully stock them with Bandaids, Kleenex, Advil, Tylenol, etc. for the entire school year….taking care of playground boo-boos, runny noses, and everything in between. I hope to see you there! ~Lauren

About LP Thrift Originals
Original acrylic paintings full of bright colors, clean shapes, and much joy.
I love to create paintings that are full of bright colors, strong lines, and clean shapes. I am very much influenced by the bold use of color, line, and brush stroke found in the Fauve paintings of the early 1900’s. I am constantly finding inspiration in family, friends, and nature. This combination of influence and inspiration produces a joyful and colorful work of contemporary art.
I was born and raised in North Palm Beach, Florida. The beach, boating, and fishing were a large part of my childhood. These are all still things I love today. My first painting classes were taken in high school. My interest in painting continued on through college and graduate school. I spent many years teaching elementary school where I was able to apply all this creativity in the classroom. I returned to painting classes after having children. In 2010, I became dedicated to painting full-time.
I have been living in Charlotte, North Carolina since 1999. I am happily married to CBT. We have two boys who provide constant inspiration and encouragement. My children, family, friends, and the joys of life are always showing up on the easel. ~Lauren
