Smarty Team note: Smarty Ava spent the first couple of weeks of summer in Trish Rohr’s Teen Writing Circle online workshop and gave us a review here. Find out more on Trish’s Teen Writing Circle in her Smarty Mom profile or on her website. Thanks, Ava and Trish!
My mom told me at the beginning of summer that I would be doing a writing camp for two weeks. My reaction was that I thought it was going to be this writing thing where you have to go to this classroom and work on assignments that are at the end of tests. Boy, I was wrong.
The first day I started this camp/workshop I didn’t know what to think. I read the email and saw smiley faces and a link. That’s it. Ok, short and simple, just the way I like it. I click link, and I do my activities, and it only took about 30 minutes. I was proud, and I went on with my day. By the way I did this on my bed. Writing in your bed, awesome.
When I start my big piece, which was a story about my cousin, I was so impressed with myself. Before I knew it, Mrs. Rohr and I were talking on my Google docs page. It was so cool. She told me to add another paragraph about my big point or scene in my story. She said “like a scene in a movie.”
MRS. ROHR WAS SO AWESOME! She really connected with my schedule. I was on vacay for three days, and she totally worked with me. I got back up to the assignments, and I was good.
Mrs. Rohr makes writing FUN and portable. I learned so much. Considering during the school year so much of my writing is kind of boring, I forgot that writing could be so fun and easy.
Thanks Mrs. Rohr for teaching me writing isn’t about essays or questions, it’s about you!
