We had the chance to chat with one of FlyBarre‘s newest instructor, Kelly Johnson, to see what she loves about FlyBarre and how she juggles it all! Learn more about Kelly and reserve a class with her here.
Q: How does your time as a FlyBarre Instructor fit into your life as a mom and an attorney?
A: My time at FlyBarre compliments my time at home with family because I teach before or after work hours and on weekend mornings when the kids are at home with their dad. They get special “dad time” and I get some well-deserved “me time.” My girls always look forward to the mini chocolate chip oatmeal pancakes that I cook for them after my 7:15AM class on Sundays. Exercise keeps me active and energetic for my family and for my job as an attorney.
Q: What’s the best part about FlyBarre?
A: My favorite part about barre, other than the amazing results we see so quickly, is the sense of stress relief and fun during the workout. Whether I am teaching or taking class, I focus 100% on the workout and completely escape from the outside world. I leave class in a great mood and with a clear head, ready to tackle whatever issue comes my way.
Q: How do you find time to create playlists for your FlyBarre classes?
A: Throughout the week, I listen to music on Spotify during my short commute to work or whenever I sneak away for a lunch break. I have a ear buds in my purse, always. Then, I make my playlists for the week during my daughters’ dance class on Monday nights with the songs I have saved throughout the week. Usually, I make 3-4 playlists and I am set for the week.
Q: We hear there’s a new FlyBarre class in town. Tell us more!
A: Tone & Stretch is an amazing and challenging FlyBarre class that focuses on arms, seat, and thighs. Like the traditional FlyBarre class, we utilize the fundamental exercises of FlyBarre (Yes, we do Flatback Chair, tricep push-ups, narrow V . . . so you know it isn’t easy!) and we pay close attention to form. After the muscles are fully exhausted, we take time to stretch, release, and lengthen those particular muscles thoroughly prior to moving on to the next muscle group. One main difference is that the class does not include some of the most advanced movements, such as the super-difficult seat exercises (no Slingshot!) or core stability. But, Tone & Stretch always includes an extra arm-toning exercise. Clients are loving this new challenge and the relaxing yogic stretches that come along with it!
