I’ve had kids. I’m in my 30’s. I work out. I eat (reasonably) well. I’ve pretty much come to terms with my body. I realize that I’m not in my 20’s anymore and honestly, it really could be much worse. I still wear a two-piece bathing suit, but don’t rock it with confidence. I feel like at this point I’m just maintaining a basic Mom body. I may have considered Cool Sculpting at one point, but everyone I know that had it done swears it does not work. I’m also not really in the category of requiring a tummy tuck. So, this is just how I’m going to look. It’s not awful, but I definitely feel like every time I pull my jeans over my muffin top when I sit down that my days of an amazing body are behind me.
Until now.
When I first talked with Providence Plastic Surgery about all services they offered, my ears instantly perked up with they talked about BodyFX. The ideal candidate was someone who was in “decent” shape. They might have an area of their body that has some stubborn fat that they have just learned to live with. Hmmm… you mean this little cellulite donut I have around my belly button and this loose skin? The procedure seemed relatively painless and the results seemed to be promising. It didn’t involve cutting me from hip to hip or leaving a scar and I was really just sitting in a chair for 20-30 minutes a week for weekly sessions over the course of 8 weeks? There must be some catch? I couldn’t wait to tell them that this procedure was a hoax.
Like most first time appointments, I was nervous. Everyone hates to take those “before” photos. I honestly didn’t want to see them because I would rather just compare them at the end. I pop down in the chair and beginning chatting with Lori as she took this little vacuum device back and forth for 10 minutes over a 4 square inch area under my belly button, and then 10 minutes over the area above my belly button. The feeling is heat with a tiny prick every couple of seconds, then she moves it again. We chat about our families, our jobs, and our lives – and before I know it – I’m done. I schedule my next appointment to come back the next week and this continues for 2-3 weeks.
I would come home after each treatment and stare at my stomach in the mirror. It’s red, it’s warm, but it doesn’t look much different. I began to think that this procedure was just like every other gimmick out there. I asked Lori at my next appointment when I will start seeing a difference. I was told that I needed to be patient and then most start to see results after the 3rd or 4th treatment.
Fast forward to my 4th treatment. What was happening here? The waistline of my pants was getting loose. Before I knew it, my size 29 jeans could no longer be held up with a belt. By the time the new size 28 jeans arrived in the mail, they had to be shipped back and a size 27 had to be ordered. Never in my life had I been in this size. My pants could be pulled off my body without unbuttoning them. Things were changing with my body and they were changing quickly.
I hear that weight loss always happens in three phases…
1. You begin to notice
2. Your friends begin to notice
3. Your husband notices
I can remember the day he noticed. I was in the shower and he was sitting outside of the glass door chatting with me about day-to-day life. All of a sudden I notice him looking at me differently.
“What are you looking at?” I nervously asked him.
“I just realized that you lost all the fat on your belly!” he said.
After I wanted to punch him in the face, I realized that he was right. It was gone. There were curves to my stomach that I never had. There were even ab muscles that I didn’t think existed from all those years of crunches in the gym. My body was started to change and it was the best it had ever looked.
It motivated me. I started running, really running and working out like I meant it. If my body was going to respond to this treatment, I was going to do my part to make these changes stay and get the most I could out of them. I started watching my diet a little more because I knew all these lifestyle changes would just add more to the investment BodyFX was making. I was still going in each week and getting my sessions with the staff at Providence Plastic Surgery and I was feeling great.
So here I am, all these weeks after my last session and it’s still looking great. How am I just a couple of years away from being 40 and my body is better than it was at 25? Was I the perfect candidate for this? Who knows? What I do know is that a body that hasn’t changed much in the last 10 years, made a dramatic transformation in just 3 months. Not only did I feel the difference, but when I went in earlier this month to meet with Dr. Gear to talk about the results of the treatment, I was blown away with the “after” pictures he took. How can that be me?
I was sold. You will be too. I can’t think of a better gift to ask for this Christmas.
The Full Monty
Want to know the science behind it?
BodyFx uses a combination of different clinically proven modalities including radio-frequency energy; deep tissue heating and suction coupled negative pressure. The radio-frequency energy distributes heat to the skin and underlying fat, causing the tissues to heat and contract. The vacuum and controlled energy pulses then work synergistically to provide beautiful body contouring results. (Watch a video on BodyFx)
