Let’s play a word association game. Ready? Susan G. Komen.
What comes to mind? Probably breast cancer research, right? You might even know it’s the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit.
But how much do you know about Komen Charlotte, the local affiliate? Here’s a quick primer.
– They keep it local. 75% of net funds raised stays in the local area to fund community outreach programs. 25% of net proceeds go to the Komen Research Program.
– They {heart} Charlotte. Last year, Komen Charlotte granted $1.1 million to fund 17 local organizations to provide breast health education, screenings, diagnostic services, and treatment support to people who cannot afford it.
– They are big on education. Staffers attend countless fairs and health education events to spread the word about early detection.
– They are a resource. Komen Charlotte doesn’t provide mammograms, but they have an amazing referral program with their grantees for anyone looking for services. They know the in’s and out’s of the local provider scene and can let callers know where to get help.
-They know how to put on an event. Race for the Cure is coming up on Saturday, October 3. It’s Komen Charlotte’s largest fundraiser and the city’s largest outdoor event. Register at: www.komencharlotte.org.
– They’re on a mission – to save lives and end breast cancer forever.
