We recently chatted with Pure Barre Charlotte studio owner and mommy-to-be Casie Petty. She dishes on why Pure Barre is the BEST workout in town for pregnant and post-partum Smarties – plus a few more fun tips. Enjoy and thanks, Casie!
Tell us why Pure Barre is great for a Mommy-to-be.
Pure Barre is great for expectant mothers mostly because of the different modifications you can do throughout your entire pregnancy. It’s all low impact, and you can work at your own pace and to your own ability with each different position. Plus, the entire class is built around a 55 minute core workout, and we all know that the core can get sacrificed during pregnancy. Pure Barre is the perfect way to keep the core strong, which will help with pregnancy, delivery, and life after the baby. It’s also a GREAT stress reliever and truly an entire hour devoted just to “me” – that’s important for any mom – whether she’s pregnant, a newbie, or a veteran :-).
What has been your experience so far with keeping up with Pure Barre and being pregnant?
I have to admit, my first trimester was really hard because I was so tired! Once I hit the second trimester, I got a burst of energy so I tried to take at least three to four Pure Barre classes a week (in addition to the ones I teach). I knew once I did it, I would come out feeling so much better and energized. Now that I’ve just entered my third trimester, I’m keeping up with classes but going easy on myself – my whole goal is to just feel good. So far so good!
Is it possible to do Pure Barre until delivery?
Yes! I have had clients in the studio who have delivered on that same day as well as clients pulsing past their delivery due date! It’s all about listening to your body and doing what’s best for you.
Do you think Pure Barre has helped you during your pregnancy?
Pure Barre has continued to help keep my core strong, my arms in shape and my seat lifted – all while doing it at my pace!
What are some of your pre- and post-workout snacks?
I like to have a protein shake in the morning before a leave, then I will have a Gold Bar for a snack. They are my favorite!!
Do you have any funny pregnancy stories?
When I read that the baby was at a stage where he could move his arms over his ears, all I can think about is while I’m in class saying tuck and the music is pumping that he’s in there thinking “Turn it down!”
What are you most excited about in becoming a new mommy?
This question just brought a tear to my eye. This is something I have always dreamed of, so just the every day adventure that we will have together as a family…
Favorite piece of baby gear?
I think this is going to have to be my new Uppababy stroller! I just push it around the house now with my current baby (my dog Charlie) in the bassinet. 🙂
Best place to score a fab maternity outfit?
I really like Destination Maternity, but I have to admit I have bought I couple of dresses at Banana Republic that I have made into maternity dresses.
Best part of being pregnant?
Feeling my baby boy kicking everyday. It puts a smile on my face!!
