Looking for a way to beat the heat? Look no further than the movie theater! A lot of the local theaters have specials to help escape the outdoors.
Regal Cinemas features “Summer Movie Express” – which has $1 movies all summer long. Each week for nine weeks, two different movies will play on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10am. Some of the $1 movies include: Annie, Rio 2, Dolphin Tale 2, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Muppets Most Wanted, The Lego Movie and many more!
The Gem Theatre, which truly is a gem has a summer movie camp underway. If you haven’t visited this theater, I highly recommend it! It’s so nostalgic with balcony seating and showing the old-school concessions animated with the dancing hotdog before the movie. Furthermore, the concessions won’t break the bank! Every Tuesday and Wednesday at 10am and 12:30pm through August 18, come check out some great flicks for only $1. Some of the features include How to Train Your Dragon, Hotel Transylvania and Penguins of Madagascar.
If you’re in the Matthews ‘hood, be sure to check out Cinemark’s Summer Movie Clubhouse. Already underway, they feature one movie each week, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10am through August 19. Featured films include Dog Days, The Nut Job, Turbo and more! All films are rated G or PG and are $1 per movie. Check out their webpage for a coupon on the bottom for a kiddie combo!
Looking for something different? Check out a drive-in movie theatre! Make the drive to Albermarle to visit Badin Road Drive-In and park the car, recline the seats and enjoy a nostalgic night! They open at 6:30, with the first show starting at dark. They are currently offering Inside Out and Tomorrowland.
There really are a lot of great movies coming out this summer beyond the summer steals! Everything from the silly Minions we all love to Inside Out, the movie about a girl’s emotions to Underdogs, an animated adventure where foosball characters come to life. There are plenty of options to escape the heat wave to a nice, cool and fun movie, just don’t forget the Twizzlers!
