Katrina Hutchins is taking the wedding planning world by storm. She is the owner of the oh-so-popular Come Together Events…but first and foremost she is Mom to Callahan and wife to Ryan. She is gorgeous, witty, kind and one heck of a wedding planner. The girl really is the whole package. This Charlotte lover welcomed me into the city three years ago and is as darling as they come. Without further to-do, meet this week’s Smarty Mom, Katrina Hutchins.
Smarty Mom: Katrina Hutchins
Mom to: Callahan 8 (almost 9) months
Married to: Ryan for 4 years
Years in Charlotte: 5
Neighborhood: Uptown but moving to Dilworth!
Hometown: Palm Harbor, FL
Occupation: Wedding Designer+Planner
What is your favorite thing about living in Charlotte? I love how clean and pretty this city is! Everything is new and there are constantly new things popping up. Currently loving all of the new Craft breweries!
You have what many women would consider the “dream job” of being a wedding/event planner. Is it everything we dream it is? Ha! Yes and no. It’s a job, just like any other. Most of my days are spent on the phone and answering emails. On the other had–YES! It’s a dream to be my own boss and help create unique events for my clients. Design is my passion and I labor over details for my brides. This is the biggest day of their lives and so important to all of their family and friends as well. Sometimes I have to pinch myself and remember how important my job really is!
You are a new Mom and juggling motherhood, being a wife and running a business. How do you manage it all? I have really great help. I hate to say that, but it’s my sanity. We were fortunate enough to have the most amazing nanny for our sweet boy. I could not do this with out her, the support of a VERY involved husband and fortunately, a really good baby.
Being such an accomplished career woman, how has the shift to motherhood been? It was hard at first. I went back to work just five weeks after having Callahan. I was ready in some regards, but not in others (mostly regarding sleep!). Once I got in the groove, and established boundaries with my clients and business, it’s been great! Setting limits for your work-life is really important!
What do you love most about being a Mom? Gosh, there are so many things. Watching him learn and grow. I’m enamored with each new milestone and accomplishment. Currently working on walking!
You run a thriving business so beautifully, any advice for Moms wanting to start a new business? Make sure you have a LOT of support and help. Running your own business is 10xs more work than a ‘normal’ job. I used to work in corporate America–believe me, this is harder. Ten times more rewarding, but harder. That being said, you will absolutely need help with child care and a supportive spouse!
Now, a few fun questions just to get to know you better:
Favorite restaurant: Nikko–I am a complete sushi addict.
Beach or mountains: Beach! All day! I’m originally from Florida so it’s in my blood!
Favorite go to dinner: Takeout – we live in Uptown so it’s easy to get anything we want!
Something surprising about you: I’m very much a home-body
Favorite children’s book: Night Night Blessings by Amy Parker
Biggest pet peeve: Being Late!
