“To have another language is to possess a second soul” ~ Charlemagne
Did you know the best time to learn a second language is between birth and age 7? Did you know that learning a foreign language can help boost a child’s reading and science skills? Evidence shows that learning a second language early in life can increase your child’s cognitive abilities. Foreign Language League (FLL) offers Spanish, French, Mandarin and Italian to children ages 18 months all the way to adults. FLL teachers have a passion for helping your child get a head start on learning a second language.
Learning a second language provides benefits, such as:
-Boosting memory
-Enhancing cognitive development in children
-Providing the opportunity to learn about different cultures
-Offering the chance to study and work abroad
Parents often ask which language is right for their child? Many parents will sign their children up for Spanish as that is the language that is most often offered to elementary and middle school students. Some parents opt for Mandarin as they see this as an up and coming language and one that will be necessary in the business world. Other parents take their child’s lead and will sign them up for French or Italian because that is the language the child is interested in learning. Whatever your desire, learning a language at a young age is not only educational, but it is also a lot of fun. FLL offers a trial class for free. So if you are unsure of the right language for your child, you can try one out at no cost.
Classes focus on vocabulary and conversation (with a little grammar thrown in for good measure) and are presented in a fun and dynamic way. It’s not uncommon to catch a class singing and dancing and they are always having fun! We are always looking to bring one of our languages to schools as after school enrichment. If you are interested in bringing FLL to your school, contact Melissa at Melissa@foreignlanguageleague.com or 704-500-0143.
FLL offers retail classes and summer camps around the Charlotte and Gastonia areas. Check out our website at www.foreignlanguageleague.com for more information and to register for classes.
