When it comes to favorite things my daughter loves to watch, no doubt that Frozen and Fresh Beat Band make the list. They’re not first though. In today’s world of mobile programming, my daughter has come across and watched repeatedly a series of segments on YouTube from a mystery woman called Disney Collector. It’s a woman with who opens new Disney toys and plays with Play-Doh before a bright green poster background. That’s it. No plot, no theme song, no CG. Just her hands and toys.
I can’t explain it but my daughter is absolutely hypnotized by her. She can sit and watch her unwrap toy after toy or make a dress out of Play-Doh or unwrap gift eggs to reveal a sticker for hours, if I let her. I’m not sure if it’s her high-pitched voice or the cute nails, but something draws my daughter in time and time again.
As I sit and wonder what it is, I notice my daughter isn’t the only one watching these online videos. There are millions upon millions of views for all of her videos (my daughter’s favorite video has more than 180 million views!) That means there are other parents out there also scratching their heads wondering what the big drawl is.
A bit of comic relief from the “hey guys…” that we hear over and over is a mom who did a parody of Disney Collector. It hits the nail on the head and I take solace knowing I’m not the only parent out there baffled by this online phenomenon.
Smarties – what are odd things your kids are drawn to?
