By Smarty Guest blogger and Smarty hubbie extraordinaire, Derek Voorhees, Jen Voorhees’ hubs. Thanks, Derek! Love having you as a Smarty!!
The holiday season is rapidly approaching and that usually means lots of out-of-town guests invading your home spending time playing charades and eating lots of delicious food. If you’re looking for a great getaway for a morning or afternoon, pack up the car and head up to Sea Life Charlotte-Concord Aquarium in Concord Mills. This gem in our own backyard is a great way to spend time together and be wowed by an amazing underwater adventure.
The super colorful entry is impossible to miss in the mall and once you’re in the adventure begins. The variety of sea life that you get to experience is unreal. There are more than 5,000 creatures for the little ones to explore. As a big kid myself, I really appreciated it, too! I think my favorite part was the sharks and seeing my daughter yelling at the sharks to come back to say hello – yikes! We always enjoyed saying hello to Nemo and Dory, of course.
I recently went to Sea Life with my two-year-old daughter and had a really great time. More than the sea life that we were able to see, we crossed off “touch a starfish” from our bucket list. The interactive component to Sea Life is great. Beyond petting a starfish, there is a fun coloring area for kids to flex their inner artist and if they need to get some energy out – there’s a fun playground for them to run and climb around and through. I also really appreciated all the learning opportunities throughout the aquarium as I was able to give my daughter a little 4-1-1 on some of the cool creatures she was checking out.
As we left Sea Life, we couldn’t escape without exploring the extensive gift shop, which is a great way to bring a part of Sea Life home with you.
This year I look forward to the holidays and spending time with family. I look forward to taking the entire family to visit Sea Life, as I know everyone from my daughter to Grandma will enjoy it.
