Healing little hearts. – Pat’s Place CAC
Behind every statistic there are hundreds of stories, which is why when I heard that in North Carolina every five minutes a child is abused or neglected, my heart fell. The stories these children carry in their hearts are dark, and the trauma they’ve experienced is severe.
When they seek help, it’s important that these kids receive support in a caring environment where their well being is the first priority. As the only child advocacy center in Mecklenburg County serving children from birth to age 18, Pat’s Place CAC provides just such an environment.
Child advocacy centers (CAC) are modeled on the simple but powerful concept of coordination between community agencies and professionals involved in the child abuse intervention system. A myriad of public and private agencies in Mecklenburg County (law enforcement, Child Protective Services, prosecutors, medical practitioners, and mental health professionals) have the responsibility for investigating, treating, and prosecuting child abuse. Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center focuses the resources of these agencies under one roof to achieve the best comprehensive outcome for abused children.
Interested in getting involved? There are many ways to support Pat’s Place. Volunteers can provide administrative help at the office or donate items from the wish list. And of course, you can always get more information at SHARE Charlotte.
