We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today. ~Stacia Tauscher
Over 7,500 kids go to sleep without a bed every night in Charlotte. But it isn’t only beds that many of these children do without. They may lack a kitchen table, or a lamp to switch on when it’s time for homework. These kids live without basic furniture that many of us take for granted. But that changes for hundreds of families each year when the Beds for Kids truck pulls up.
Beds for Kids delivers new and very gently used beds and household furniture to Charlotte families in permanent housing, who are referred to the program through partnering agencies like the YWCA, Charlotte Family Housing and A Child’s Place.
There are several great ways to get involved with Beds for Kids, particularly through Serve Saturdays. Find out about this family-friendly opportunity below, and learn more at SHARE Charlotte.
Serve Saturdays – Individuals and groups can help clean, build and paint furniture, along with packing new bedding for delivery. Volunteers must be 15 years old and up.
