By Nancy Ehringhaus, Director of Admissions, Charlotte Country Day School
We are fortunate to live in a community where there are many private school options. The school you choose should offer an environment that fosters your child’s greatest potential and matches your family’s educational values.
Here are a few tips to consider to find a school home for your family:
Do Your Homework — visit school Web sites, attend Open Houses, and schedule campus visits. At Charlotte Country Day, we want each prospective family to learn as much as possible about our school in order to make the best educational decision for you and your child. The best way to get to know us is by coming to visit, tour our campus, and learn about our mission and educational philosophy. Every school has its own personality and you can learn so much more by talking with our teachers and students, and observing the school day in action. Getting a feel for the school will help you choose the one most suited for your child.
Admissions Process — several steps are involved in the admissions process. Once an application has been submitted to Country Day, each child takes a developmentally appropriate entrance test and meets with a faculty member to assess academic readiness. Previous academic records and teacher recommendations are also taken into consideration. After the testing process is completed, an admissions counselor meets with each family to review their child’s readiness.
Partnership — though your child may be the only member of your family in the classroom every day, at Country Day you are there as our partner. Together, we are developing the intellect and character of your child. Ask lots of questions of faculty, administrators, and current parents. Learn as much as you can about the school’s mission and culture as you decide on the right school for you and your child.
Choosing the right school for your family is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. We look forward to working with you as you explore the right option for you.
