It is that time of year when pumpkins and leaves are about to make an exit and hollies and jingle bells are about to make their highly anticipated arrival. So what does that mean for your home? It is time to decorate for the holidays!
At Lauren Nicole Designs, we want to help you select pieces for your home that will stay with you for many holiday seasons and will give your home a unique and personal touch. Here are a few tips to help select the right pieces:
*Scale – make sure that you select pieces that are the right size for your room/home. Don’t be afraid to go bigger than you think you can! And remember to group pieces together that are of different sizes to maximize visual impact.
*Color – It is not just about reds and greens anymore! The holidays are a great time to bring in metallics and punch up your traditional red and green scheme by infusing silvers and golds. And yes it is okay to mix the two!
You may be the type of person who likes to create a home filled with holiday décor all throughout or you might be someone who likes to give each room just a little holiday cheer. Either way, creating a warm and inviting environment that will make this time of year feel special is what is important. Some areas to consider using unique pieces are:
*Stocking Hangers — use something decorative and not ‘just’ a hanger
*Tree Ornaments — combine personal with decorative. And go BIG! A good place to combine reds, greens AND metallics!
*Mantlescaping—this is often a focal point of the room so be sure to give it the drama it deserves Add height, color and texture to show off your holiday flare.
*Kitchen Pieces — they can be both functional and attractive!
Also think about your entryway and adding a few pieces to make your guests feel your holiday spirit when they come over to visit. Your entryway is your first and last impression on your friends and family so it is an important area to address. And it could be as simple as a pretty bowl full of large colorful ornaments or adding a holiday pillow to an entryway bench or chair. Little touches can go a long way.
And that theory goes for all of your rooms, not just your entryway. Just like in everyday decorating, finding the right balance and combination of size, color, texture and function and beauty, holiday decorating is just the same.
