School is back in session, and if you’re among the growing population of parents who take on the additional tasks of classroom teacher and curriculum planner, Discovery Place has your back.
In addition to a host of field trip and class options for public and private schools, we also offer a variety of homeschool programs at our uptown Museum as well as Discovery Place KIDS-Huntersville.
More than 2.04 million students in the United States are educated at home, with those numbers steadily increasing across North and South Carolina.
On forums across the Internet, homeschooling parents say they’re looking to museums, parks, historical sites and other community resources for highly valuable learning experiences, especially those that are too messy, expensive or labor-intensive to do at home.
Through our Museums, students have access to a rainforest, aquatic habitats, an inflatable planetarium, high-powered microscopes, a 3-D printer, meteorology instruments and more. Class and workshop topics include animal dissection, chemistry experiments, invertebrates, robotics and cultural studies.
These hands-on, in-depth sessions meet North Carolina education standards without messing up your furniture, setting off your smoke detector or breaking the bank. Classes are $15 for Museum members and $20 for non-Members.
Plus, homeschool families also can take advantage of our discounted Educator Memberships.
Available to certified teachers and homeschool educators in North or South Carolina (grades K-12). Educator Memberships are valid for two named adults and up to 4 children ages 18 or younger living in your household. A copy of your valid teaching certificate or NCDNPE homeschool certificate is required.
