Bill Cosby once said,”Fatherhood is pretending the present you love the most is soap-on-a-rope.”

Isn’t that a metaphor for life as a dad? Pretending to love something even if it isn’t perfect?

Dads watch their children being born at the same time they watch their partner struggling in pain.

Dads watch their daughters happily leave for their first school dance with a date and silently cry inside.

Dads have to lay down the punishment even if they didn’t see the crime.

The list could go on and on . . .

Just like moms, dads are constantly juggling with the highs and lows of parenting. They just don’t vocalize them like we do. Dads worry and sometimes we don’t let them fully get those burdens off their shoulders. On days like “Father’s Day” it is so important for us to share our heartfelt thanks to all the fathers who lovingly dedicate so much to their families.

We are so amazed by our “Smarty Dads” and we are in awe of their ability to keep it all together. Thank you for setting strong examples for our children. Thank you for checking under the bed for monsters, throwing the kiddies in the pool, making the best grilled treats, and always loving us.

Today celebrate the “Dad” in your life. Celebrate his wisdom, his passion, and his ability to post a smile when he opens “soap on a rope” on Father’s Day!
