Women in their forties (and older) amaze me. You “forty somethings” are seriously in shape and always showered. Excuse me for asking, but what gives?
I’ve watched you women waltz into the 8:30 Flywheel or Yoga class all toned and perfect. How do you pull this off? How do they get so fit?
How?
No, seriously, how?
It took me weeks and weeks to figure out what those women have that I don’t. And, then it hit me, time.
They have time!
Their children are in school for chunks and chunks of hours. They can grab a morning workout AND shower and not have to beat the preschool clock. Their children are independent enough to allow for some flexible schedules and they have free time.
Oh, free time. How I have missed you! I often dream of you at night. Well, until a toddler wakes up with a wet bed and interrupts my slumber.
I can imagine what it would be like to have time. I would probably take a ton of yoga classes a week. I would probably not eat my lunches off my kids plate while I’m trying to convince them that a nap is not optional.
Whatever the forty-year-olds in Charlotte are doing it seems to be working. You make it look so good. I am sure you are stretched thin (like all mommies), but you have time to recover.
I just think independent children equal more confident mommies. It is like we get our life back and we can start to live and accomplish the goals we put on hold when the babies were born. Careers start over, bucket list items get attention, workouts become priority.
I’m not wishing my life away. I certainly love the phase I’m in. I just really look forward to the next one. I look forward to getting some of my personal strengths back.
Oh, and my abs . . .
