Recently, I stumbled upon one of the coolest new toys for all age groups, including adults! My 9-year-old first discovered a Boogie Board (no, not the beach boogie board!) at a friend’s house and fell in love with it. When it came under our roof, all four of my children ages 6-11 were fighting over this gadget and we just had to get one. Or four. The Boogie Board LCD writing tablet is my new go-to gift for preschoolers, elementary AND middle schoolers. This is awesome for airplane travel. We even have one for the car – no need for pen & paper ever again!
The Boogie Board 8.5″ LCD Writing Tablet by Improv Electronics started a revolution. Ultra light (4 oz.) and thin (1/8″). One just isn’t enough. Get one for on the go, in the office and multiple places around the house. Almost anywhere you’d keep memo pads, sticky notes or scrap paper.
Here’s how it works:
-Erase your image with the touch of a button – and a friendly flash from the liquid crystal display – COOL!
-Sealed 3V watch battery never needs replacing.
-The Boogie Board tablet is an ultra 1/8″ thin and is easy to take with you in a purse, scheduler, briefcase or backpack.
-The case and LCD are made from durable plastic materials. Safe for school use and all around the house, office and car.
-The Boogie Board tablet’s pressure-sensitive LCD writing surface creates lines of different thickness based on how hard you push – just like paper and pen!
-Includes: Boogie Board 8.5 Tablet, Stylus, Cleaning Cloth, User Guide
-Write or draw with the included stainless steel stylus or any other suitable instrument – even your finger! You’ll never need to search for a pen or pencil again!
-Super fun colors: black, silver, gold, white, yellow, cyan, green, pink, red
-Retails for $39.99-$42.99
You can find the Boogie Boards locally at Toys & Co in Cotswold and Park Road Shopping Center. Call ahead, these sell out as soon as they hit the shelves and trust me, they will be at the very top of the 2012 Christmas hot toys list! I would also recommend that you purchase a Boogie Board case as well to protect it in bags. You can never be too protective of electronics!
You can find Boogie Boards and all sorts of new LCD gadgets on the Improv website. Their gadgets are way cool!!

Jen is right – these things are very cool!! My kids love it – especially my 8-year-old!
I am thinking it will be great for traveling and waiting at dr. Visits! Easy entertainment!
Would love to use this for my two boys in our upcoming airplane trip!
The boys would love to use this for our long car rides! They saw it at a friends house and are begging to get one!
My kids have taken over mine and love it! Tic tac toe, hang man, etc. And I thought that it was for me, ha!
Road trips, waiting rooms, restaurants….looks fun!
Could think of so many reasons, one that I just thought of since school will be starting back in a month, this would be a fun way to practice spelling words!
Great way for my 7 year old to practice handwriting while we are on the go!
My son has recently become obsessed with drawing superheroes! I find scraps of paper all over the house and it’s driving me crazy!! This would be a great alternative. 🙂
Great for long car trips and airplane rides. Waiting at doctor, carpool (the poor young one that has to wait for the oldest in carpool), or practice spelling or math.
Sounds great for the little ones! I’m sure mine would love it! 🙂
Restaurants, doctors office, and travel.
This would be great for my kindergarten classroom. My reluctant writers would love it!
Thanks CSP for keeping me “in the know” :). Hopefully this will encourage my son to write and draw more!
I think the best use of the boogie board (at least for me) is when I’ll be traveling to China for 5 months in August. It’ll be a great tool to help me teach, as well as keep track of notes at home. Since it’s erasable, students could practice writing on it without wasting paper or ink.
It would be great for shopping lists and to write down little notes for my hubby to see before he goes to work! And also for my son one day to use (he’s only 6 months right now though)
Could use this for my “honey do list”, just kidding, the boys would love it.
My autistic son can use it to take notes in class and to write questions to pose to teachers.
Great way to leave notes for your kiddos around the house…Don’t forget to brush your teeth, etc. And they can respond. Otherwise…road trips, doctor’s offices, etc. FUN!
I think it would be great for for the kids to play hangman with each other while wating in a restaurant, on a plane, at the dr’s office. Educational but fun!
This would be great to encourage my preschooler to work on drawing and writing more – not his favorite thing to do!
Great to teach my 3 yr old letters & numbers.
This would keep my kids entertained during an upcoming 11-hour drive!!!
LOVE!! love the idea for long car trips — no more lugging paper, markers, etc.. and seems fun enough to ward off/postpone the continual “is it time to watch a movie yet?” comment from the backseat. 🙂
For my son to use while his sister does her homework.
Trying to figure out how to make math facts practice fun — this could be it!
I was going to say that!!!!
Daily Drink Specials for my husband to make for me! 🙂
Any homework practice….spelling pre-tests, math facts, etc!
Would be awesome to have for our those long road trips!
I’m thinking it would be best for traveling, helping my son practice writing since he’s preparing to start kindergarten, and then for him to express himself through art. I can always show my love by leaving him little love notes on it. 🙂
This would be perfect for road trips or waiting for dinner at a restaurant!
They are also available at Brilliant Sky (awesome toy store in Blakney Shopping Center). One of the employees there told me she bought one for a friend who just had a stroke and needed to write to communicate. Perfect!
Would LOVE to have this for traveling with the kids!! Looks super cute:)
We travel to California alot, and this would be awesome with two little ones for the airplane!!!!
For my 4 year old to practice writing.
It is amazing how many of these toys I do no know about.
I would love to win one for my 6 year old.
Thanks!
As a homeschooler, I’d love to use this to practice letters with my 3 yr old. And I’m sure he’d think of many more uses for it himself!
Great tool for practicing letters! And a great gift idea for my niece.
This would be great to practice writing. No excuses that the pencil isn’t sharp anymore!
great to make travel easier!
I think this would be great to practice writing and drawing, anywhere! Very cool!
Flying with 2 kids in August…this would surely help entertain on the plane!
I think it would be great for car rides and to write our daily activities.
I would be great to leave a list of things for my kids to accomplish in the morning to get ready for school. It helps them focus to be able to check things off. I do this with paper now, but it would be fun to be able to say “the first Boogie Board to breakfast wins!”
This is a fabulous new tool to get my daughter’s imagination going!!!
I would say car rides/traveling….(our last trip ended up with a whole bucket of crayons melted into the car seats)
Great way to encourage my kiddos to take a break from the sand and swim!
What a Great product! I can list so many uses and times this would come in handy. What Fun!! Thanks for the opportunity 🙂
I think this would be great for everyday use since my kids are always drawing. Seems perfect for road trips as well!
Would be a great way for my son to practice all the new skills he will learn in kindergarten this school year! Also great for trips!!
Seems like a wonderful tool with almost endless uses! I love the idea of it for the car, we have a few too many “stray marks” from markers, pens, crayons & pencils all over the interior of our van 🙁
I also think it would make sight word or math facts practice a bit more fun for the kids! Thanks for a chance to win one!
great for long carrides or dr visits.
Great for playing school with the kids, sure beats a dry erase board or chalk board. Quiet time, car rides, planes, doctors, football games… the uses are endless! Love it.
Great for both of my boys… one to practice what he’s working on in OT and the other for all of the waiting around in the therapy office for his big brother. Looks like lots of fun!
I want one in every color. These sound amazing!!!
Saves me money on sticky notes that I leave for my boys, with things like “I’m pretty sure these socks don’t belong on this floor” and “May want to review numbers 5 & 7 on your math homework” and “If this toothpaste smear is still on the counter when I tuck you into bed tonight then you owe me a dollar.” And then maybe the boys will be inspired to leave me messages like “You’re the greatest, Mom, we love you!”
Wow, my kids would Love this. They don’t have any handheld video games and I think they would be very excited to have this writing tablet. They are so creative and could come up with many, many ways to use this.
This would be great for my kids to take notes in class
Would be great for interactive dining. Instead of everyone on their iPhones and iTouches at dinner, wouldn’t it be nice to actually use this for conversation! Also, would be perfect for a trip we are planning…given how much waiting you do at airports, customs, etc.
Great for independent work during sibling’s nap time.
this will be handy to use at doctor’s appointments and at meetings at work.
Great for my daughter during our long car trips to OH to visit family and friends!
this would be great for starting school for my daughter
