Dove House, Children’s Advocacy Center in North Charlotte could use our Smarty support.
Dove House’s mission is to minimize trauma to child victims of sexual abuse and the non-offending family members. When a case of suspected abuse is reported, Dove House is mobilized into action. They provide a safe and child friendly facility for investigation and intervention. The children are interviewed by a highly trained forensic specialist, who is neutral and helps authorities determine if abuse has occurred. They also have a fully equipped child friendly medical room staffed by sexual assault nurse examiners (SANE). Each family is also provided with a victim advocate to partner with them through the process of investigation, the court process, referrals and emotional support.
Traumatized child victims no longer need to go to multiple “scary” locations like police stations and hospitals for interviews and medical exams. Rather, they come to Dove House’s nonthreatening “home” environment, where team members come to the child instead of the child being taken to each of them.
Dove House is a nonprofit facility and is primarily funded by donations from private citizens. So, how can you help?
When a child enters Dove House, he or she is encouraged to play in the playroom and choose a stuffed animal to keep. Unfortunately, the supply does occasionally run low. They need gently loved and new stuffed animals to fill the closet. They could also always use juice boxes and non-perishable snacks.
Save the Date: Children’s Voice Luncheon 2012 on Tuesday , September 18 from 11:45 to 1:00 at the Cove Church. A complimentary lunch will be served and guests will enjoy a brief inspiring program about the missions and services of Dove House. If you would like to attend the event, call 704-883-9814 or email info@dovehouse.us.

Wendy, great blog feature on an important topic and for a wonderful organization. I have, unfortunately, known families that have needed Dove House & they work wonders for those in desperate need! Plus, you know I’ve been looking for ways to give back lately, so very timely post! Thanks girlfriend!
Thanks Ash. My kids are purging their rooms as we speak.
This breaks my heart that we need places like this – I know it’s the reality of our society, but I just have a hard time wrapping my arms around child predators. God bless the Dove House for all that they do!
