Our heels are made for walking – and sprinting! The second Stiletto Sprint brought hundreds of cancer survivors and supporters together, and raised more than $80,000, to support the fight against ovarian cancer on April 28, 2012.
The Sprint, which took place at SouthPark Mall and involved more than 400 people, was presented by The Bissell Companies and benefitted the Carolinas Ovarian Cancer Fund at Levine Cancer Institute.
“The Sprint is a fun way to bring much-needed attention to this very serious disease,” said James Hall, MD, Director of Gynecologic Oncology for Levine Cancer Institute. “We are grateful for the tremendous outpouring of support from our community for this annual event, and look forward to continuing to generate awareness and funds to support our ovarian cancer patients.”
More than 20,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and nearly 70 percent of them are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Ovarian cancer has been called the “disease that whispers” because symptoms can be so vague. Organized by ovarian cancer survivors “The Teal Magnolias,” one hundred percent of the net proceeds from the Sprint support local ovarian cancer research and care, patient support programs, and community awareness.
