Smarties, have I got a tip for you!
The Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” reigns supreme as one of the must buys for a high school or college graduation gift.
Well, are you ready to kick it up a notch, Smarty style? Here’s an idea that will crown you the Smartiest Mother of the Decade!
Purchase the book now and at the end of each school year, secretly have your child’s teacher(s) sign the book. Then, present it to your child at their high school graduation and they have an uber-special memento that no other gift can match! Brillz, right?
Luckily, my oldest is in kindergarten and my youngest is in pre-school so I can do this for both of them.
You can also buy the book for new mothers and explain the tradition to them; you will definitely win “Smartiest Baby Shower Gift”!
If you decide to give as a baby shower gift, there is a lovely template you can download and print to include with the book.
Shout out to Lisa’s Workshop Blog for creating the template and detailing the idea on her site.

SO cute! You are incredible Susan. You make me look bad. Really, really uncreative and bad.
I saw this idea on pinterest and thought it was a great idea!! LOVE the insert for a gift idea too! But I have some questions I can’t figure out…..my son is in preschool, so do I start with those teachers? And how hard would it be to get all the different middle and high school teachers to sign? I just can’t decide if it’s worth it…. curious to see what other people think!
K – I’m too dumb to come up with this stuff on my own. Pin all day, pin all night.
Shea – You do it however you like! You could do preschool and elementary school teachers and present to your child before middle school.
This is the CUTEST thing I’ve ever seen!
I started doing this 3 years ago, when my oldest started preschool, and it’s so neat (even just 3 years out) to re-read the teacher notes!
Love this…gonna order 2 copies right now so I can do it this year with my kiddies! Thanks!!
That’s a great idea! My son, who’s in kindergarten, just became obsessed with this book. How cool a present this will be in 13 years!
I also saw this on Pinterest and thought it was super cute – I actually have two copies that were given to me upon high school / college graduation, but they are both written in, so I will have to buy another copy for my daughter (who is only 2, so I still have some time!).
GENIUS!! Thanks for sharing your smarty ideas Susan!!!
What a well thought out idea! Love it! Any other book suggestions for someone who isn’t into Dr.Seuss?
