I have to admit that this may be my favorite Smarty Dad – South Charlotte Santa, aka Jim Miller. The work begins in mid-summer as Santa constructs his displays. 10,000 candy canes are ordered and preparations are made for December 1 when the lights will go on.
Santa takes up his post two weeks prior to the big day at the end of his driveway where he greets every car that drives by with a Ho, Ho, Ho and Merry Christmas. He takes the time to speak to the kids, hand out candy canes and put the joy of Christmas in their eyes.
His 3 children are grown, his wife and neighorhood are behind him. They get into the swing of things by putting up their own light displays, singing caroles and dealing with the traffic.
Letters to Santa are welcome in the box and any contributions are sent to St. Judes Children’s Hospital.
One man in one neighborhood spreading Christmas Cheer to all of us. How Smarty is that!!
