Here’s my answer.
Family beach trips with my in-laws have spelled D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R ever since my first born was little. Year 1: she wouldn’t sleep – WOULD NOT sleep – in the Pack n Play. I was 8 months pregnant with #2 so after a couple of nights of no sleep, we packed ourselves right up at midnight and drove all the way home. Of course she slept great the whole ride home and went right to sleep in her own crib. We went to the doctor the next day because surely she had an ear infection or something? Nope, the doc’s diagnosis: separation anxiety…what?!?! Weak diagnosis in my opinion but who knows what goes on in a 13-month-old’s head! Year 2: Ear infections. Year 3: I’m pregnant with Baby #3 and we ALL get a horrific stomach bug. EVERYONE. It took a while for us to live that one down because who else would’ve brought the stomach bug to infect to the rest of the family but the ones with the little kids? Year 4: Baby gets a double ear infection and the older two get Hand, Foot, and Mouth. Yes, Hand, Foot, and Mouth. That horrible high fever and mouth ulcers that causes 2 and 3 year olds to wail every time something hits their lips. Our Urgent Care bill was like a mortgage payment that year because we were out of network.
On a positive note: I learned one trick to keep my sanity – boxed wine (the good Target stuff) and Solo cups – no one ever knows how much you’re drinking!
